Best of luck to one of the classiest guys to put on a Canucks jersey. Great leader, and a class act. You deserve everything good going your way. I have nothing but love and respect for you and good luck in your future endeavors. Give'em hell!

Salo, who turns 38 in September, became expendable when the Canucks signed free agent defenceman Jason Garrison on Sunday.

Didn't Salo sign first?

Either way going to miss him.

Class act on and off the ice. He'll play whistle to whistle, but you never see him taking cheap shots in a scrum.

Wish him all the best.

This makes Tampa my B team. Go Sami go.

Yup, with him, Olly, Stamkos, and Yzerman running the show, hard not to like em!

I'm going to miss ya buddy...Forever a Canuck!!!

The key difference is that Sopel can fill in for Seabrook and Campbell just fine. Bieksa, he is garbage so in that sense he is like the worst defenseman in the league.

When Cody (Hodgson) gets older, he might be better than Datsyuk.

Let's not push this guy (Kassian). He's still immature, and if he fails on the 2nd line it's because he isn't ready. Some guys really need years to develop, it's how well and how fast players adapt to the game. In my opinion, I'd rather have Horvat getting 2nd line minutes. He will start off on the 3rd line next season but I see him making the transition, being a great compliment to whoever plays his wings.

At this point, I don't see Kassian fitting in to any role other than a 3rd. If players like Kassian start getting 2nd line minutes then we just stay inconsistent as a team.

The idiocy on CDC....

October 28th is the night in which we can thank Salo for everthing he has done for the Canucks!!

I'm sure that Salo will get a standing ovation at that game.

Sami Salo was one of the best defencemen Canucks ever had, wish him all the best in Tampa.

We all know it's a business. Tampa bay offered him the highest amount he ever got. Best of luck Sami, no one is mad that you signed eslewere, but sad it happened. Last we heard, "we were close to a deal" now he's gone forever. Best of luck Sami.

Players Nikolaj Ehlers have been compared too by the fan base of the Vancouver Canucks.

1 Pavel Bure

2 Markus Naslund

3 Nathan Mackkinon

4 Jonathan Drouin.

5 Jonathan Tavares

This makes losing him even harder. I wish you all the best Sami, go win a cup in Tampa! You deserve it.

Class act all the time, and always played hard. It's not gonna be the same without Salo around.

Here is an article of a short interview with Sami Salo by a finnish news agency MTV3 following the signing. I translated it quickly/roughly w/google.

Sami Salo made a two-year deal with Tampa Bay Lightning. Many other clubs were pursuing 37-year-old Turku native.

- Making the decision was not easy. I had many good options. At the end of the day, Anaheim, Detroit and Dallas were in play, Sami Salo revealed to MTV3.

- We made the decision that satisfied all of us together as a family. New challenges await. Thanks to all the clubs who were in contact, the defender said.

Salo had been with Vancouver since 2002.

- It is certainly nostalgic feeling to leave. The organization [Canucks] has always been very professional about everything. Owners and management really care about hockey, and they work very hard for the team. And the fans there are awesome, Salo said.

The experienced defender grabbed the plush salary increase.

- I have heard only positive things of the Tampa organization. Steve Yzerman as GM and a good friend Mattias Ohlund plays there. Now a new beginning, a new place for new challenges and objectives, Sami Salo said to MTV3.

Salo was signed Monday night to a two-year and 7.5 million dollar deal. Last year in Vancouver, Salo earned two million dollars. In Tampa, the native of Turku gets to play alongside star players.

- Steve Stamkos, Vincent Lecavalier, Martin, St. Louis. Those are big names. The team was in the Eastern Conference finals two years ago, it's not a coincidence, Salo thought.

The age of 37 Salo has just one goal in mind.

- The team's goal is always in the postseason. I only want to play for the Stanley Cup Championship. The goal is to get to raise the cup, Salo said.

I wonder if anyone on Tampa will fight Marchand...

Oh if Marchand tries anything on Salo again, he will have to face Mattias Ohlund or Big Hedman

But yeah good for Salo to get a nice deal on a good team in a nice city nearing the end of his career. I hope he stays healthy and they have a good year.

I will be cheering even more now for Tampa and FLA when/if Lu goes there. Hopefully Lu ends up in TB!

gonna miss classy Finnish MacInnis, but business is business...

Looking forward to watching him let it rip out East though, so goalies beware!

2012, meet Matthew 24:36-47!

growing up my favourite player was Naslund. Salo leaving hurts more though. I just really didn't expect it. Obviously I know there were a few problems (reported) with the talks but when I thought of next season Salo was always in the picture.

Great player, great class. Never went for the dirty plays or even physical plays, played smart hockey and although he was known for his shot his defensive capabilities will be greatly missed.

I hope he stays healthy and wins the cup with the Lightning. Definitely deserves the cup before he calls it a day.

Gonna miss Salo, hopefully he gets revenge on Marchand the 4 or so times he plays them next year.
