Now THAT is a smart contract term to give a #1 goalie. I wish 6 years max was our team policy.

Yea. Luongo has a ton of value now but would have WAY more value if his contract was half the length of his current one

Seems to be the going rate for star goalies. Rinne got 7per, Quick's first 7 years he gets 7. Price get 6.5. Luongo get over 6.

Price is only 24 and will still be in his prime when the contract ends. He wouldn't have accepted a b.s. front load contract that only paid him a fraction of the cap hit in the last few seasons. Couple that with the higher taxes in Quebec and $6.5 million seems about right

Lui >>>>>>>>>>Price

Lu has 10 yrs remaining and he is 33 , Price is 24 with 6 yrs at 1.2 mil more a season and Luongos contract was signed when the cap was more then 10 mil lower a season

Tyson Giuriato @TysonGiuriato

With Price's new deal, Luongo now has the 9th biggest cap hit among goalies. Schneider is at 15.

Everyone thinks LU is overated and overpaid, go look at Price's career stats, and now has a caphit of 6.5mil.

Price is overated. I don't understand how lots of people are saying this guy is team Canada's for sure choice for 2014 based on his numbers. Don't get the hype around this guy.

His best year: 2010-2011 - 38 wins, 8 SO, 2.35 GAA, .923 SV% With 8 SO's, his GAA is average

Luongo 2010-2011 - 38 wins, 4 SO, 2.11 GAA, 9.28 SV%, goes to the SCF

But yet LU is overated and overpaid, and Price isn't.....OK

Finally another sane person, can't believe how many think he is worth 6.5.

With every goalie signing, Lu's contract is looking better and better in retrospect.
As of now, Lu is a better goalie than Price (especially at the lower cap hit), not so much by the time Prices deal is done though.

Not even just his money, I don't at all get how Price is the guy to beat for Team Canada 2014 based on his numbers. He has never had even 1 year with numbers close to Vezina type, but yet he is the front runner for 2014?!

The guy to beat is still Luongo for 2014 Olympics. Then I would say Fleury.

Who would you guys rather have? $5.3 for Luongo or $6.5 for Price....IMO even though Price is only 24, I would still prefer Luongo.

Exactly, Price has done nothing. Just look at his career stats. But yeah never understood how fans think LU is overpaid.
