pimpcurtly
Wow, that's a long contract. How could he turn it down?
Ghostsof1915
Hence the reason with the new cba there has to be a limit on length of term. 5 years? 6 years? 7 max?
NucksBruins
So if Suter gets 7 mil a year for 13 years, what would we have to pay for Weber? 9 mil a year for 16 years?
VintageForever420
And what has Eklund proved? These long contracts are getting out of hand.
CookieCrumbs
Absolutely ridiculous in more than one way.
Canucksbiggestfan
There should be a limit on how many years a team can offer, the maximum amount of years a player can be offered should be 8 years.
TOMapleLaughs
It's okay though. Holland is doing it.
Neversummer
If you were Suter or Parise, would you want to play in the same team for the next 12-13 years? Why won't these guys sign a 6-7 yr contract and then have another crack at free agency later, they are pups, if they are as good as people say they are, they will have no problems signing another contract then. That and plus inflation, in 7 years, it will be 10 mill / yr as the standard.
The Sedin's 6th Sense
Overrated and about to be overpaid. Guys nothing special, just a big name. I'd rather have a player like Kronwall than Suter; getting paid cause stupid teams are desperate. NHL is becoming a joke now days with these long contacts, ffs... DownUndaCanuck
He's 27 now, which means the contract expires when he's 40 which is reasonable for a life-term contract. As for 7 million a year, Suter is worth about 5 or 6 million. His numbers are far from fascinating and he's playing in a defensive-minded coaching system with the best defenceman in the league to back him up, and the 2nd best guy in the world as a goalie. I see Suter is very similar to Beauchemin when he played alongside Pronger and won a Cup together. Together, the duo were fantastic but alone Beauchemin is (still great) only a shell of his former self.
bobopan
I guess im in the minority but that's a great cap hit for a true number 1 guy, well worth it IMO.
hsedin33
13 years is absolutely absurd. Why should teams have to put themselves into great jeopardy just to land a good free agent? There has to be a limit. 6-7 years. I hope he goes to Detroit just so we have a better chance at landing Weber next year..
sharnhayre
Let these contracts get going while they can, cause after September and when the new CBA kicks in.. none of these will exist.
ChuckNORRIS4Cup
Ok if Suter is worth this much, then realistically how much is Weber worth? Weber is for sure way better then Suter as good as Suter is, Weber is just that much better, so this would mean Weber is worth for 13 years roughly 125M? oldnews
I hope he signs in Minnesota. Condidering he and Parise were born there, and it probably produces more NHL: players than any other state in the US, it would be nice to see one of their marquis guys go back. Detroit - you've had your share of UFA jackpots.
