The man is being absolutely ROBBED. Being paid 2M/yr for 4yrs and is a legit 30 goal scorer and penalty killer. I feel terrible for the guy, someone would probably throw $5M at hm if he puts up 30+ next year which he easily could playing with the Sedins.

Zach Parise, known in the NHL as a true sniper and top line player gets a $98M contract coming off a 31 goal season. Putting this into perspective, Alex is due for a hefty raise after his contract is up.

What will Burrows get in the open market if that's what it comes to?

You feel sorry for someone making 2 million dollars a year playing the sport they love?? You've got to be kidding me. Alex Burrows is living the dream.

Legit 30 goal scorer? This guy would be a 15-20 goal scorer if it weren't for the Sedins.

Also, no. I don't feel bad that he's getting paid millions to do what he loves.

Umm.. why would anyone feel bad?
The guy purposely asked for $2M because he knows he wouldn't have put up those goals without the Sedins and he did it to encourage other players on the team to take a paycut.

No he would be atleast 20, I would say 25 without them, he still has great skills and his shoot is really good, underrated imo.

If Raymond could get 25 Burrows could without the sedins.

I'm pretty sure Burrows had about 3 goals in about 4-5 games at the world championships on a line with R. O'Reilly and Purcell/Ladd

Yeah, Burrows is certainly hard done by...

Forget the SPCA and the Food Bank, start sending donations to the make Burrows slightly richer fund.

Overrated player with Canucks fans in my opinion. I'll probably get flamed for typing that, but I still think he's overrated despite his salary.

burrows makes more than i will in 10 years, in 1... and he gets to earn it doing something he loves - for an undrafted ball-hockey champion, i don't think he feels bad for himself at all.

Why feel bad for someone who is playing the sport they love on a winning team and making money for it. He took a hometown discount, that's all there is to it.

I am glad you two have told us all how little you understand about the game of hockey. If you think Burrows is over rated, you've serioulsy never competed at anything, let alone hockey in your life.

Laughable.

For me it is not about 'feeling bad' for any millionaire or pro athlete.

It is about fairness and equitable distribution and if that is not addressed the workforce rots from within.

You work at XYZ corp.,for instance.Buddy next to you was just hired for four times your wage and yet working side by side with him or her it is obvious that you do the same amount of work -and maybe more-plus you do a more thorough job.

The GM won't renegotiate your contract, despite the fact you are being paid four times less than the newbie and you have made a much greater contribution to the success of the company.

That is when your GM is a dick and you are being used.

2 million is a lot, but for what he does he deserves a lot more.
Not only the goals and assist, penalty kills and all that. But he IS the heart and soul of the Canucks, this guy puts everything he has into each and every game and what he did to even get a shot in the NHL backs my comments up. Dedicated and hard working.

Ontop of that, this guy is an amazing guy with the community and fans. Classy, and I hope he gets a well deserved raise. I love Burrows, most exciting player we have.

Burrows is nothing with out the sedins he signed to the 4 year contract because he knew on any other team he would be a bottom 6 winger. If anything just make him home assistant captain

Compensation is relative. There's people who think hockey players shouldn't get paid more than surgeons.
The reason why they get paid the amount they do is because there's only a few hundred people in the world who can play at this level. It's not because their profession is any more valuable than some other profession.

No matter how modest you are, you can't help but compare your own compensation with your peers.
How would you feel if you work 2x as hard as your co-worker and they get paid more than you?
Even if your co-worker is the nicest, friendliest guy in the world.

Hell even $2M isn't much in Vancouver. After taxes, you can barely purchase a home for yourself and family.

There are many individuals in various circumstances that I feel bad for and Alex Burrows is certainly not one of them. Not even close.

"Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure--one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.” (David Rockefeller)

Could not agree more with you. Short memories are endemic with this crowd. THe Canucks were not much better than a laughing stock when Burrows and Kesler road into town. They did more than hteir share in turning this franchise around. Burrows knowingly took less to stay in Van and pursue the CUP. If it were me I would have thought long and hard about it and probably chased the money.
