Overpayment in my opinion and you should replace 'the' with 'this' in your title otherwise it seems like you're asking people for their opinion on a trade that has already happened

So you're insinuating that Edler = Late first and one of Vancouver's underwhelming prospects?

Ok buddy.

Any deal involving the acquisition of Weber will likely need to include Kesler. He's signed to a L/T, reasonable deal, which Nashville is interested in. They wouldn't be interested in Alex Edler, today, because they'd then essentially be getting a guy in the same situation as Weber, who can choose somewhere else to sign in a year.

I agree that he won't sign in NSH. But are you kidding? You think that Nashville will just take 3 first round picks and 4 useless players? Nashville will at least want a quality player back in that group. 3 first rounders doesn't help at all, they might as well just get compensation through an offer sheet of 4 first round picks.

Suter 7.53M - 13 years

Weber 7.5 - 7 years

no way, weber will cost at least 8.5 under a 10 years deal.

His agent will play the suter card, saying Weber is better. And people will pay. My guess is a minimum of 7.75 - 12 years deal.

Wait a year and just try get Weber in the offseason as it is unlikely he signs a long term deal. Canucks are apparently high in his list

Could Edler be signed to a 5 year deal, then traded to Nashville? Or would that give Weber the heebeejeebees?

This^
The Canucks could make some HUGE deal that would deal probably 5 players and a pick or two. OR we wait one more year and try to land him as a UFA.
Personally I'd go the second route.. Nashville will want Kesler + who knows what. If they wait one more year the Canucks could try to land him as a UFA and not give up much of anything. Sure he will want a huge deal, and i can see his agent saying that he is a better d-man than Suter and request 7.75+ and a huge long term contract.

Oh God no. Too much for a guy who's a UFA in a year. Even if it is Weber.

He's saying that Nashville won't want Edler because he is UFA next year... they lost Suter to UFA, they are having trouble signing Weber as an RFA and last thing they want to do is trade for a player that can leave them as a UFA after 1 year. Why not just keep Weber in that case..

I'm sure they'd consider taking Edler if they're getting Kesler and a 1st too.

Lol MASSIVE overpayment. trade a 40 goal scoring Selke winner & All-Star defenceman both in their primes AND a 1st round pick (albeit it probably being low) too.

Who's going to center our second line? Andrew Ebbett? LMAO

Maybe, but I wouldn't trade Kesler AND Edler.
Edler to me needs to stick around and play with Weber,
We can resign him to a 5.5m/y extension. Our long term defence would be insane and be tops of the league by a longshot.

I think it stinks.
A bunch of spare parts (plus Edler) wouldn't land you Weber alone, let alone one of Nashvilles top young forwards.

40 goal scorer huh?

2008 - 21G
2009 - 26G
2010 - 25G
2011 - 41G
2012 - 22G

I would tend to say that the 41 goal season was perhaps an exception? Calling Kesler a 25 goal scorer is the limit really...

...and you do realize Weber is an All star as well and will be in competition with the best of them for all possible defenseman awards, winning most of them year after year?

Edler disappears during the playoffs; Weber comes to life.

Again, Weber and Edler are the same age so Weber is just entering his prime too but is already on top of the league as far as defensemen are measured.

As for the second line center, Kesler is a glorified 3C. Best in the game. But as a 2C, he hampers his wings as he doesn't pass. Luongo for Lecavalier is a realistic trade and having Lecavalier as a 2C makes whoever plays wing that much better. Think of it as having Sundin but at roughly $3.000 MIL discount on his $10.000 MIL Gillis offer.

You lost me at Kesler being a glorified 3C...
Many teams can use him as a 1C which is overboard but I think that he's a great 2C. I think people are putting to much in this Kesler doesn't use his wings thing. Every player knows how to pass, just because Lecavalier is noted as a playmaker rather than Kesler does not mean he immediately out values Kesler. Kesler has many more intangibles that need to be factored in.
Speed - Size - Grit - Defensively responsible - Hard Shot - Hard to bump off the puck.

I didn't hear anyone complain when he scored 40 goals 2 years ago, now he all of a sudden isn't cut out for the Canucks...

This is as well after coming off a season with 2 different injuries....
