not that im to judge considering I've barley seen him play, but if he was really top 5 quality wouldn't he have made the team by now? or be racking some serious points in the Ahl?? i seriously doubt this kid will be as good as hodgson.

That's not necessarily true. Tons of guys have had underwhelming AHL season and gone on to be very successful in the NHL.

Adam Henrique didn't make the Devils out of pre-season, and that was even with Zajac out. Marchand didn't make the Bruins out of camp at the same age Schroeder is now. There are countless other examples, like Mcdonagh in NY, Tortz said sometimes things happen by accident.

He'll make the team this year. Unfortunately AV is still the coach.

I have no doubt that Jordan Schroeder will make the team to start the season and I feel like he'll surprise a lot of people/doubters. I expect him to play the Cody Hodgson role of last season, before he got traded, and do just as well if not better.

I feel that people tend to focus on his size as a deterent from him being a NHL player but forget that in his draft year, many people believed his skillset was that of a top 5 pick. This kid has some real dynamic skill that can translate to the NHL. He has been developed properly the last 2 years in the AHL and has learned to play a reliable 2 way game.

Our team severely lacks playmakers outside of the Sedin twins and one of his strongest assets is his vision and passing abilities. I think you'll see him on the 2nd unit PP much like Hodgson and be effective.

I think in terms of skillsets, he is on par with a guy like Cody Hodgson. But he is a much stronger skater in all facets.

Tons of small players in the NHL have been successful. No reason why Schroeder can't if given a fair shake.

Great post. I like how positive you are about Jordan. Hes our first rounder and hes got skill. I hope he does even better than we thought Cody would do. I hope he turns into Martin St Louis . Good for us.

As much as I like Schroeder, he would have to have taken huge leaps in his development this offseason if he plans to beat out Ebbett for that roster spot... I dont see them both on the team at the same time.. but i could be wrong

a video like this shows how capable he is defensively within a game.

Difference is Marty owned the AHL.

I'm predicting more of Gionta-type success at best.

Problem is he is a rookie that will have AV the youth killer as his coach, may not turn out well.

I think he is still a year away from the NHL. I will be happy if he makes the team but I'd be more happy if we got an excellent 3rd line center either through UFA (are there any left??) or via trade. I am not gonna lie and say anything other than I don't have the same excitement or expectation of Schroeder as I did with Cody. This team claims that they want to become more physical and harder to play against. Why put in a 20 something year old kid who will be the smallest on the team to play an important role when he hasn't really proven anything in the AHL yet.

Maybe I am just being negative, I think you have to be when you are a Canuck fan to avoid being disappointed all the time haha

Nobody knows whether he will be on the team, but the canucks are committed to letting guys win spots. What is fact though the kid is going to one day play in the NHL as a top 9. I think he's going to be a very good player if he keeps developing.

I hope you're right. We really need a second line center replacement with Kesler being out.

Hardcore hockey fans in minnesota went crazy when the wild passed him over - its something the franchise will for sure regret in the future - not drafting a talented local boy and him going to the nucks.

as of now, I think he's got a legit shot.. with so many holes in our line-up that need to be filled...

but if we sign Shane Doan......... :bigblush::emot-parrot:

I agree.

He's a good young player.

I think out of all our prospects he has best pure offensive skillset, Jensen comes close but Schreoder's offensive game is more dynamic and I think he has game breaking offensive ability. He just has to continue to develop. And realize his potential.

No Reason to count this guy out, I'm not 100% sure if he is ready yet but I believe he might be and we will see.

I'm super excited to see him come September.
