Marc-Andre Gragnani has signed a 2 way deal with the Carolina Hurricanes. Split time between Buffalo and Vancouver last season. Worth 800k in NHL.

He looked promising on Canucks powerplay.

Hurricanes signs Marc-André Gragnani 1 year / $800 000 (2 way)

He has a lot of work to do, makes mistakes and goes out of position. GL to him with the canes.

Wasn't Gragnani AHL defence man of the year? And 7 points in 7 playoff games with Buffalo. Yea he wasn't too great defensively but it takes time adjusting to a new team and I don't think he was given a real chance to prove himself. I think he will be a good offensive defence man, and a steal for 800k.

So we traded Hodgson and Sulzer for Kassian. Getting Gragnani was a FAIL by Gillis.

The guy is a former AHL defenceman of the year, scored near a point per game in his last year of AHL and is only 25 years old. It was certain a team, some team, would take a gamble on him. With a two-way contract there really is no risk there for CAR.

The SE division is appropiate for him. He'll probably do alright in Carolina. They should be a playoff team this season.

This is the last entry-level year for Skinner, so they might want to make a big push for some more significant moves. Too bad they're out of the Nash hunt. (Likely because Howson wanted Skinner.)

Should have an opportunity in Carolina! A bit shallow on the back-end so he should slide in nicely. If he starts producing, he could take off playing behind the Staals. Good luck! I say 30+ points and -12.

What's funny about 'Joslin for Grags' is that while they're both quite horrible at defensem Grags has some speed and offensive flair. Joslin's speed isn't great and his offensive upside is almost nil.

Sounds like these transactions were AV approved. Lol.

This move has little impact, but it's hard not to notice that this team is gradually slowing down.

Hodgson has nothing to do with Gragnani. They were two seperate deals (Hodgson for Kassian straight up and Sulzer for Gragnani straight up). So it becomes that we traded Sulzer for nothing.

NHL12's default roster has Joslin on the Canes' 2nd unit PP. Guess that is exactly where Gragnani will be for 13.

Gragnani will likely be in the AHL for the bulk of the upcoming season, actually. He was signed to a 2-way deal for a reason. Same reason that Joslin was bought out. They don't want to pay an NHL salary for an AHL player.

Like it matters, AV never used Sulzer anyway. What a fricking surprise.

What did Gillis say about the guy in the presser after the Hodgson deal? It was something like 'big talented offensive defensemen don't come along every day'... and we don't even bother to qualify him? I don't know, this is a real head-scratcher to me. Seems like MAG deserved a shot at making the roster.

Obviously Sulzer was an NHL caliber player but he would not have been with us this year anyways. Gillis rollled the dice and lost but either way we lost nothing.

Sulzer was never going to beat out Humhuis, Bieksa, Edler, Ballard, Salo Rome, Alberts, last year, for a full time spot and this year he would not have beaten out Hamhuis, Bieksa Ballard, Edler, Garrison, Tanev or Alberts

Proclaiming a 'fail' for no longer having an 8th defenseman on the depth chart is a bit ludicris...this way Sulzer gets a shot with a team that may be able to use him, we got to test drive Grags...and he wasn't going to beat these guys out either...so it is more win win than lose lose.

But don't let me interupt your hate on for the Hodgson trade...

Not sure I catch your meaning. Sulzer played the way AV likes his depth guys to play. That wasn't the problem. The problem was there was just too much depth, and strangely not enough injuries on the blueline. There were like three guys ahead of him on the depth charts, and that wouldn't change going into next season.

Because Rome and Alberts were ahead of him on the depth chart...
