My bad. How about Andersson? Do you see him as being a viable 7th defenseman for the Wolves or a starting defenseman if Joslin is not in the lineup?

i'm fairly certain andersson already announced that he'll be in the SEL again... but i may be incorrect on that. everything gets so mixed up in the offseason...

edit, nevermind, he announced he's coming to the wolves:
http://forum.canucks...0#entry10640616

so yeah Andersson will definately be on the wolves.

How is Lack not on the Wolves anymore?

because if lou gets traded, Lack will probably be on the canucks.

Yeah, I was actually thinking the same thing. I think it was Henrik Tommernes that was possibly going to come to North America but then signed in Sweden.

that could be it. i know someone did that, and then jensen said he'll be in the SEL if he doesn't make the canucks, a valid choice if you ask me.

Is Taylor Matson actually going to Europe? Or is he still our property?

no, that was someone else i was thinking of. i'm seriously confused today. we have until August 15 to sign him before he becomes a UFA. not sure what's gingon with me today. maybe it's the heat. I gotta cool down the house.

Players under contract to the wolves:
Climie, Davies, Matheson, Haydar & Sterling

Sterling-Doell-Haydar
Sweatt-Schroeder-Rodin
Archibald-Friesen-Mallet
Anthony-Davies-Gordon/Pinnizotto

Connauton-Sauve
Joslin-Mullen
Polasek-Matheson

Cannata
Climie

Closest i've seen so far, but i have some issues with this line up. Doell as the 1C is not a good choice. He is a great utility player in the same vein as Miller, but I'd rather bring back Reinprecht if that were the case.

Davies never played center with the Wolves so I don't see him there. He'll be the 13th fwd if thats the case with the wingers. He sat for a large portion of last season as that 13th guy.

I don't see Anthony on this team. Schneider will continue to be 4C, unless Matson is signed (believe he is a much better 4C). That 4th line needs work, need a fighter with the dirty ways a lot of guys in the AHL play. Probably the Wolves will sign someone in this role.

Pinizzotto played in the top 6 with Hershey, i think, and i don't see him being demoted here on the 4th line. Plus he had some pretty good chemistry with Schroeder in the preseason, so i'd try him there on the RW.

Gordon was supremely unimpressive last season. Don't know what they saw in him and not sure how he fits this season. Hopefully he can regain his form from a year earlier.

In any case, looking like where we left off, a glut of wingers and little center depth unless one of Mallet or Friesen surprise. Also a lot of competition for very few spots.

For the D, as mentioned above, Andersson will be in the mix. So the D too will have heavy competition for minutes. Liked Polasek with Matheson last season. Good pair. Sauve will play LD, with one of Mullen or Joslin. Andersson is looking like maybe the odd man out once everything settles (meaning both Joslin and Mullen are down there and not our #8). But should get some good looks at the beginning of camp, Wolves camp that is.

Every year I think the Wolves have quite a bit of forward depth. But each year they always end up being so underwhelming offensively, though I think they've got better in recent years... eh, we're getting there. ;)

I agree with the poster that said the Wolves are again underwhelming at the centre position. It's why I think Friesen will have a great chance to make the Wolves and also why the Wolves will be screwed if Schroeder makes the Canucks in the fall.

I heard somewhere the Canucks were trying really hard to sign Reinprecht. I see a good reason why, now that I think about it.

I personally think Connaution will make the big club and play as our 6th d man.

Players I'm looking for next season with the Wolves:

Sweatt (he's close to making it to NHL)
Rodin (last year was him getting accustomed to North America hockey. this is the year he starts producing).
Friesen (needs to prove MG right by playing a good two way gritty game)
Mallet (better show us why he was a second rounder)
Connauton (should improve his defense, keep up his offense and we'll see him in the big league next year)
Sauve (probably the first call up if someone gets injured)
Archibald (epic fail last year; we'll see if it was all but hype this year)
Cannata (next coming of Schneids?)

Schroeder hopefully doesn't play one game with the Wolves next season.
Lack has a very good chance of playing with the nucks too.

Hard to say, the Wolves lost a few key players from last season with Bitz and Oreo leaving the organization and Jensen saying he'll play in Europe if he doesn't make the NHL.

Jensen can't play in the AHL this year, so listing him as a key player they've "lost" is incorrect.

I don't see it at all. Connauton will not outplay Tanev and Connauton plays LD, he is not better than the LD we have right now.

Roussel lived with Sauve. So that a key french guy that will be there, might room with him or something. Who knows, lol. But Sauve's as good of mentor as anyone on that team.

My predictions for breakout players are:
F:Rodin (Schroeder if he doesn't make it)
D: Andsersson
G: Cannata (not many options but honestly he is as good as Schneider at the same age).

Short of another D signing by the Canucks or Wolves, here are what I think will be the definite top 5 defensemen in Chicago this coming season (in no particular order):

Joslin
Mullen
Connauton
Sauve
Matheson

The remaining signed defensemen by the Canucks (Mark Matheson is the only defenseman currently signed by the Wolves to an AHL contract) are Peter Andersson, Adam Polasek and Frank Corrado. Corrado is still underaged by AHL standards so he'll likely return to Sudbury of the OHL. That leaves Andersson, who is coming over from Sweden, and Polasek. Out of those two, who do you think grabs the remaining open spot in the top 6 on the blueline? Or, do you think Joslin remains on the Canucks' roster as an 8th defenseman and both Andersson and Polasek make the Wolves roster?

Can't speak for what will happen or what others think will take that spot, but my bet is for Polasek.

Maybe i am biased for watching Polasek this whole season and only just WJC for Andersson, but i think Polasek improved a lot during the course of the year. He ended the year playing perhaps his 2 best games of the year and looked every bit like a top 4 D in the AHL. To this day I don't know what made MacT switch him out for Parent for the playoff run, bad decision.

Polasek was playing with confidence, was physical and solid defensively. And he has very under-rated offense. He's not going to replacing anyone on the PP, but sometimes he skates the puck up the ice really well and makes some very good passes. Also, his shot has some power to it. To end the year he played with Corrado for those few games, but for the majority of the year he played with Matheson and they worked well together. So i wouldn't really want to separate them really unless Andersson really surprises.

With the CBA issues, i can see Joslin starting in the AHL and Andersson will be in the AHL as a spare with Arniel switching him in and out. Who knows, maybe Tanev also starts down there if we are locked out.

Nope. Looks like he's committed to Boston University in the NCAA next season.

http://www.elitepros...hp?player=48361

He'll be 20 years old in August, though, so I don't see him playing in college for the full four seasons. Maybe avelanch can shed some light on how long over-agers usually play college hockey.

seeing as wesly was a 6th rounder, is just entering college, and missed the last half of the season last year, I'd wager at least 2 years, but probably 4, unless he really excells in the NCAA. the better he does the faster he leaves, but since he's a 6th rounder he'll probably want to finish his degree just in case. I know I would.

The only player from this draft class that *likely will be* in the AHL is Alexandre Mallet.
