Texas Stars Finish Off Monarchs in 6 Games; Win First AHL Calder Cup in Franchise History!

After a grueling regular season and a playoff run that included two 7-game series, the Texas Stars' storybook run finally culminated in the franchise's first ever Calder Cup. To no one's surprise, netminder Jack Campbell once again stood on his head, stopping 21 of 22 shots thrown his way and taking the game's first star as well as the Playoff MVP with seven shutouts in all his 25 starts.

Reilly Smith opened the scoring in the second period with his first and only shot of the game, deflecting a snap shot by Travis Morin from the blue line. Tom Wandell then doubled the lead with 5 minutes to go on the powerplay off another deflection, this time a shot from the team's leading scorer Scott Glennie (8 goals).

Jack Campbell's bid for his eighth shutout of the playoffs was ruined mid-way through the 3rd period when a goal by the Monarch's Kyle Clifford went to video replay and was deemed a 'good goal'. The officials received a smattering of boos from a section of Stars' fans in the arena, but Jack Connolly put the game away for good on another powerplay goal in the last three minutes of the game with another helper from Scott Glennie and Philip Larsen.

Post-Game Quotes

"These playoffs were such a long grind. It hasn't yet sunk in that we've won. Everyone played great and stepped up when we needed them. Hats off to the Monarchs though, they really made us earn the wins. Nothing came easy when we played against them."

"The atmosphere in here tonight was amazing. I didn't know we would have so many fans traveling with us on the road. It was pretty funny to see them boo the refs when they ruled on that goal, but I'm glad we were able thank them for their support with this trophy." - Radek Faksa

"There's no question in my mind that our MVP is the guy between the pipes. Jack was just incredible tonight. He looked invincible all through these playoffs and kept us in games that we really had no business being in. What an amazing player. And what a amazing bunch of guys. It's been a real honour playing and winning with everyone!." - Scott Glennie
