Vancouver Canucks 30

Good thing there's no legal issues with Glendale. Good thing they have a guy that wants to buy the team but doesn't have all the dough for full purchase. Lucky the league owns and operates the team.

The above shouldn't concern Doan at all. That's just some of the things that Doan is waiting for to be cleaned up. Yes he'd like to stay in Phoenix. That's no secret. I'm sure he has interests in the Phoenix area out side of Hockey. Being close to one's investments are the concerns of any businessman. There would be family reasons too.

Vancouver does not have the problems that Phoenix have. The problems Vancouver has Doan can help on the ice. The problems Phoenix has Doan can't do much more than he's already done on the ice for them.

I would say the Vancouver would have the edge if they were down to the last team so to speak. It's more than money here. Doan has a lot to think about and if he chooses not to come to Vancouver it would not be for Gillis missing out.

Even if the PHX buyer gets what the City promised it does not make this franchise PROFITABLE or VIABLE. Doan is probly looking for his last contract and IMO that means PHX, on reflection, is not in the picture. Doan has sacrificed his career to being a team player and methinks he wants a REAL shot at the CUP. That means he is on the move. If he signs with Van and Gillis makes a solid deal for Lou then the Canucks are back in the CUP hunt. The way other teams have strengthened their rosters it will take at least that sceanario to make Van competitive.

Gillis on Doan: "We are involved...We think he would be a great asset for our team...He is a player we think can help us in multiple ways."

I'm really starting to think he would push us over the top this year, no more Sedin bashing without a facefull of the Doaner!!

Would be a huge boost to the team to sign Shane Doan. Fingers and toes crossed.

the asking price for doan is too much. Love to have him but way to much of a cap hit.

Ha! We're not getting

anything decent for Lu... The best we could possibly hope for is albatross for albatross (Luongo for Nash). Other than that, we're getting hosed...

And, not just for one or two reasons, we're getting hosed for just soooooo many:

1. Lu's been a prima donna since day one (remember all the hoops he used to make management jump through - well, I shouldn't say 'used to', he's still doing it to this day?).

2. Lu's treated management as bad as management treated Bure. Well, OK, maybe not quite that bad, but not good either. And, who has to make a massive gamble to acquire Lu?... Right, another team's management... They're like elephants, they don't forget.

3. If you were a coach or GM, would you want a player who asked out of a decade-long contract after three games on the bench??? Ever???

4. Lu is reportedly steering the trade towards one or two teams (who have nothing we want).

5. Lu never moved his family here. Despite signing a contract in the 2000's - that ran through the 2010's - and into the 2020's... Would you want a player who cared that much about your city?...

6. Would you want a player (signed for another decade) whose production declined dramatically and almost immediately after he signed that contract?...

7. That contract.

8. Oh, and that contract was clearly designed so Lu could cheat the rules (and not play the last few years, yet still get paid the big bucks). Would you want a player who is OK with cheating?...

9. Luongo made his trade request public - thereby ensuring we don't get fair value. Again, would you want a player who did that to his last team on your team???

10. And, it's worth repeating... This isn't a long, drawn out thing or something that's been brewing forever. Lu is pissed that A BETTER PLAYER got to start THREE GAMES ahead of him. Three. Freaking. Games. And, he can't stand playing on this team anymore... Would you want a player like that on your team???

And, remember...

If you pick this player up - you are on the hook for like fifty million dollars - AND - you have to give up one or more decent players in exchange...

Oh yeah, and is this player famous for being a choker?...

Too bad the fans of this team chase players out of town like its going out of style. The guy was considered a savior in his first 2-3 years and now he is an albatross and a choker. He is now considered to be a cancer like Messier while it was only last year where he did kind of help to bring us to the finals. Fans like you disgust me more than anything else, because you guys set a standard so high that not even the best player in the NHL could maintain. It will be the same thing with Schneider too, just watch. You guys will praise him in his first couple of years as a starter, then you will turn on him once he slips a little bit.

Im suprised to see some people here saying he's not worth the money when we've got over 5m invested in a 'faceoff specialist' and a figure skater plus 4m+ Ballard playing in the bottom pairing lol.

I think that every day this moves forward the less chance Doan heads back to Phoenix. Beyond Doan, his turning and going elsewhere will probably indicate the fate of Phoenix as a franchise. Remember, he's virtually dealing with the league right now. The League would have to ok any deal Phoenix handed Doan. With a League/ Players contract coming up there are all kinds of pitfalls for both sides when Doan's contract comes into play. It's one thing for an individual team to set precedent on contract amounts but another for a League owned team to set precedent.

Doan knows this and sits right in the middle it. With little movement on ownership in Phoenix it's unlikely he'll stay there.

Fans here do not chase players out.Luo wanted out and most fans agree it is time for him to go.

I guess what confuses me is the fact that if he is really set on phoenix why not sign a 1 yr deal - no matter what happens the team will not move this season. Gives the team time to sort out the sale and he gets his wish to stay there at least one more year. Seems to me a player with major issues with the situation of his current club and looking at some stability for the remainder of his career.
