He is a defenseman, Anaheim drafted him 6th overall this year. I think you are talking about Hampus Lindholm, who is a forward.

A quick google search of that name says completely different.

You're talking about Hampus. Elias is the forward

Awful list. Weber should be 5th or 6th.

Actually, Hampus Lindholm was the guy drafted 6th overall by ANA this draft and he IS s defenseman. (I checked Wikipwdia and hockeydb)

Elias Lindholm on the other hand, is a 17 year old C/LW

Elias Lindholm will win the Calder and will be a norris finalist this year. He will be on this list in a couple of months.

Thought it'd be interesting to see this list and the full results for the Norris (voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association) side by side:

Posted Image

As far as Canucks' D goes, it's interesting to note that Hamhuis is 25th on Bleacher Report and 10th in Norris voting, while Edler and Bieksa are more or less similarly ranked. As far as the rest of the list goes, I guess the most glaring discrepancies are Girardi who was 6th in Norris voting, yet unlisted on Bleacher Report. Same for McDonaugh (11th in Norris) and Mitchell (19th). Also, seems like Subban was ranked according to his potential, rather than current merit, cause 18th on the Bleacher Report is crazy.

I don't really agree with his rankings in general but he made a comment that stuck out to me: The Canucks could possibly have the best TRIO of defensemen in Alex Edler, Dan Hamhuis and Kevin Bieksa. I think this is a great point. There are several teams with better #1 defensemen and some teams with better 1st pairings, but really, who has a better group of three defensemen? I guess I can think of a few - Chicago with Keith, Seabrook and Hjalmarsson or the Rangers and their quartet of Girardi, Staal, Del Zotto and McDonagh - and several other teams come close - San Jose with Boyle, Burns and Vlasic - but I really think Edler, Hamhuis, Bieksa is the most complete set of three defensemen in the league. One is approaching being a 50+ point guy, one is a 40+ point guy and one is a 35+ point guy, and all of them can play in all zones.

I think too many people are obsessed with getting a sexy name on the blueline and they don't consider the sheer depth of great defensemen the Canucks have.

Not even close. These are all the trios that are better, in no order:
Mcdonagh, Girardi, Staal
Boyle,Burns,Vlasic
Chara, Seidenberg, Boychuk
Keith, Seabrook, Hjalmarsson
Green, Carlson, Alzner
Ehrhoff, Myers, Sekera
Doughty, Mitchell, Scuderi

Disagree with the Boyle and Ehrhoff lists.

And the Kane list. Kane is a crappy dman.

Really looking forward to having a legit 3 d pairings again. When we lost Ehrhoff that was a big blow. Garisson gives a different look than Ehrhoff.

I like our defense make up, now more than ever. Bieksa bleeds blue and green, career Canuck. Hamhuis and Garrison are proud BC born players. Edler has been with us since his draft. I think it's a very good thing to have such committed players. Plus the ultra-competitive Ballard and "The Kid" Chris Tanev to round out our six starters. Not too shabby having the fastest skater on our team and a Kid who plays like a 10 year vet as our 3rd d pairing.

I think Hamhuis is underrated here. Perhaps he and Bieksa should swap rankings?

Also think Del Zotto is overrated in these rankings. He's very skilled offensively but can be really exposed defensively, he's young and definitely needs to improve that aspect of his game

He's good, but shouldn't be #1. I would say he's in the top 5 though.

Seabrook is probably better than Garrison.
Hamhuis is far better than Ian White.
Gonchar will be brutal next season, not 23rd best in the NHL. He's old and had an slightly above average season last year.
Bieksa at 20? Kevin and Hamhuis should be swapped.
Campbell loses his great partner so won't be as strong next season, definately not 6th best in the league.

Pretty bad list

No Enstrom?
No Girardi?

White and Bieksa higher than Hamhuis and Seabrook?

Too many inaccuracies to point out
Sig too big.

This list is crazy. Even with three in the top 25 last year the Canucks then should have been much better in the playoffs. That defence core was not top notch in the playoffs. Or this list just points out how important it is to have a top ten d-man. All of the last few cup winners have someone in the top 10.
