Jai604
I think I read somewhere that he was given #52 somewhere along the line (maybe at camp?), and never bothered to change it. As others have said, defensemen wearing low numbers is a tradition. Certain numbers have a particular position or role related to them. 1, 31, 33, 35 are goalie numbers. Players who wear 19 are often captains. #91-99 is usually worn by high-scoring forwards. A lot of two-way forwards wear numbers from #11-18 etc etc... Numbers in the 50's and 60's are often for grinders and role players (#66 being an obvious exception).

TheDave
I'm seriously jacked on this. I was actually hoping he would wear 5. It's just a solid defensmens number. Higher numbers look better on crazy european players and rookies and all that anyways.. but yea, solid choice IMO. Exited to see this guy in action. Tortorella's Rant
It's just a damn number. He should be able to wear whatever the hell number he wants aside from those have been retired

Rounoush
I love this very much. All defenceman should wear single digit numbers to differentiate them from the forwards. WE WILL HAVE ORDER!! 2 - 3 23 - 5 4 - 8 I like it.
Hax
Why do people assume that the Canucks management tell the players to take lower numbers? I highly doubt they give a rats ass. WTF are with people in this city, so many people are so paranoid or whatever you want to call it... YOUR ALL WEIRD!
thehamburglar
Do teams say which number they choose?
HockeyHobo73
I'm sure Garrison doesn't care what number he wears... He got a huge pay day to play where he wanted to play... I still think we could have signed him for a year less and at less money (not much less, but still a bit less)
DownUndaCanuck
2 - 3 5 - 23 4 - 8 One of these things is not like the other...if Edler took Salo's number as a "token of respect" we'd have a nice and tidy D core.
canuck cole
Exactly why they don't wear high numbers. I don't get what your trying to say
allkill326
Yes! #5 is a simple, one-digit number, but I was hoping he'd take over Salo's number #6....
