      Forum-specific Rules   07/11/2017

These are board specific rules for the Trades and Rumors forum designed to provide organization and a better experience for everyone. Please review these rules before posting new threads.
THREAD ETIQUETTE   1. Please search for an existing thread before posting. This forum can be very fast moving, so it's understandable if redundant threads are inadvertently posted. In such a case, please use the report feature to request removal of redundant threads.    2. Provide a clearly identifiable topic title so that users can readily understand the content. The title should include any and all teams involved, as well as player names or other personnel involved as appropriate.   3. All trades, signings, rumors and other news MUST include a linkable source. Simply posting the name of the source is not enough. Effort should also be made to copy and paste the full article, or at the very least the relevant portion of text from the source to the first post of the thread. Moderators may remove low-quality threads in favour of high-quality threads.

Affixed to the front of your title should be a label that identifies the type of transaction that is taking place. For all trades use [TRADE]. For all signings use [SIGNING]. For all waiver-wire transactions use [WAIVERS]. For all rumours use [RUMOUR].
For articles or news items that don't fit into the above categories, affix an appropriate label of your choice such as [NEWS], [ARTICLE] or [MISC].   4. When the status of a thread changes a new thread can be created. The new thread should reflect the change and help focus the discussion on current events. e.g. Someone may create a new thread when a rumor becomes a trades. The old thread will be locked by the moderating team.    5. Do not misrepresent the contents of your thread or post false trades or rumors. Trolling will result in a permanent suspension.

SOURCES   The following source types are considered INVALID. Any links to posts or threads on other message boards Any links to personal blogs Any news heard on the radio that does not have a link to an audio vault or podcast Any news seen on television that does not have a link to online video Any news spread by word of mouth
Additionally, certain sources may be be blacklisted due to poor credentials, clear traffic-mongering etc. Blacklisted sources will be posted here.
Thank you for your co-operation and please PM the Administrator or Moderators if you have any questions, concerns or suggestions regarding this forum.

[Report] Shane Doan has begun to visit/meet with teams for his services

Recommended Posts

While it's possible, he's said his preference is to stay in the West and be closer to home. That means Alberta and BC, along with California (or of course Phoenix).

He would be perfect on our 1st or 2nd line, but that leaves us with an excess of good forwards.

Sedin - Sedin - Doan

Booth - Kesler - Higgins

Burrows - Lapierre - Hansen

Raymond - Malhotra - Kassian

Weise

That's incredible depth, but almost too much when you compare it to our defence:

Edler - Garrison

Hamhuis - Bieksa

Ballard - Tanev

Alberts

This team needs more balance. We can afford to have a crappy 4th line, but we can't afford to have a bad 3rd pairing.

Some people believe that the intangibles Doan brings to the dressing room are worth the price of signing him alone - the offensive numbers, whatever they may be, are simply a bonus.  We know his 'numbers' are going to go down gradually at his age, but his experience continues to grow every year.

Someone's moving out of Philly if they get Weber... Weber puts them over the cap with Voracek and Bourdon still to sign as RFAs. In the event that they land him, I'd suspect they'd drop the pursuit for Doan, unless they can find a way to move salary out. Pronger on LTI or retiring would bring some relief, but even with that they still wouldn't be able to fit Doan, Voracek and Bourdon under the cap.

Don't worry boys. He's starting from the east, and making his way to the west. It looks like he will start east, Head Westwards towards VAncouver then end his trip heading back South to California then ending in Phoenix.

Problem is he'll want some job security, around a 2 or 3 year deal at the least and hopefully up to a 5 year deal to keep him playing until he's ready to retire or 40.

This is a big gamble for a guy who is not only 35, but plays a hard, physical style of game that will wear on his old body. He's expecting a long term deal which I doubt MG will offer, 3 years at 5 million per is a lot considering he'll be 38 in his last season and probably a 3rd or 4th liner by then.

People keep saying we're so hard-up for cash against the cap.

SO incorrect.

#1 Ryan Kesler is on IR

#2 Roberto Luongo WILL be traded, and his contract along with it,

#3 We still have 3.2 million remaining in cap space without making any other moves.

AND PS. Getting Doan, would be like gettin Trevor Linden back in his prime.

They are the same player, only Doan's a winger.

so was linden.

edit: also getting trevor linden in his prime would be getting a 30 goal, 80 point ironman along with the intangibles. 35 year old shane doan is no 24 year old trevor linden. hell, 24 year old shane doan was no 24 year old trevor linden.
