Recommended Posts

Kane is considering a six-year, $29 million deal from Jets:

Restricted free agent forward Evander Kane appears to be inching closer to a deal with the Winnipeg Jets.

According to Winnipeg Free Press writer and TSN Radio 1290 host Gary Lawless, negotiations between the Kane camp and the Jets have gained momentum, with Kane considering the a six-year deal from the club that would be worth around $29 million.

The 20-year-old had 30 goals and 27 assists last season.

Earlier in the off-season, the Jets signed other key members of their team, Andrew Ladd and Ondrej Pavelec to long term deals.

lol, what a slap in the face. The guy scored 30 goals last season, added close to 30 assists, and he's 20 years old. He could easily crack 35 goals 75 points next year. 5M/year is less than Dennis Wideman made on the open market.... 5M/year might get Kane signed for a year or two, but no way in hell he signs longer than that.

Slap in the face to make the same (or similar) money as:

James Neal - 40G 40A

Corey Perry - 37G 23A

Scott Hartnell - 37G 30A

Phil Kessel - 37G 45A

Matt Moulson (3 mil/year) - 36G 33A

Eric Cole - 35G 26A

Radim Vrbata - 35G 27A

Michael Ryder - 35G 27A

I could keep going.

Point is, just because Calgary is ridiculous enough to overpay the amount they did for Wideman, does not mean that everybody has to be overpaid. Everybody I've heard comment on the Wideman contract has said that it's one of the worst contracts they've ever seen. So why would you use that as a base for what Kane should be paid?
