ckamo
Forgive me if I'm jumping the gun a bit, but the women kick off their Olympic campaign THIS Wednesday against reigning world champs Japan. I wasn't in town for the qualifiers but there seemed to be a good amount of buzz generated then so I'm hoping we can get behind our team again. Group F consists of Canada, Japan, Sweden and South Africa. Schedule: WED July 25: 9AM PT vs. Japan (Sportsnet, RDS) SAT July 28: 6:45AM PT vs. South Africa (CTV, RDS) TUE July 31: 6:30AM PT vs. Sweden (Sportsnet) Roster: Bib Name Position Age Club 1 LEBLANC Karina GK 32 Sky Blue FC 2 ZURRER Emily DF 25 no club affiliation 3 STEWART Chelsea MF 22 UCLA Bruins 4 MOSCATO Carmelina DF 28 no club affiliation 5 GAYLE Robyn DF 26 no club affiliation 6 KYLE Kaylyn MF 23 Vancouver Whitecaps 7 WILKINSON Rhian DF 30 8 MATHESON Diana MF 28 9 CHAPMAN Candace DF 29 Sky Blue FC 10 SESSELMANN Lauren DF 28 no club affiliation 11 SCOTT Desiree MF 24 Vancouver Whitecaps 12 SINCLAIR Christine FW 29 no club affiliation 13 SCHMIDT Sophie MF 24 no club affiliation 14 TANCREDI Melissa FW 30 Dalsjöfors GoIF 15 PARKER Kelly MF 31 no club affiliation 16 FILIGNO Jonelle FW 21 Rutgers University 17 TIMKO Brittany MF 26 18 McLEOD Erin GK 29 Dalsjöfors GoIF 19 BOOTH Melanie DF 27 Vancouver Whitecaps 20 NAULT Marie-Eve DF 30 Ottawa Fury 21 JULIEN Christina FW 24 Jitex BK 22 BERNIER Justine GK 23 Vancouver Whitecaps Here's an excellent write-up/intro to the team from Daniel Squizzato: http://www.canadians...Olympic-preview If you follow him on twitter he will also provide some very colourful play by play commentary =) Again, sorry if this is early or if this should actually go into a general Olympics thread. Hugemanskost
Putdowns and sexual innuendo. Nice. We have a World Class footy team to support and this is the best we can do? The Canadian Ladies, ranked 7 in the World, are in tough just to make it out of their group. Japan (3) and Sweden (4) are both ranked in the top 5 in the World. South Africa is ranked 61 so Canada must pick up 3 points in their second match to have a realistic hope to move on. Best of luck, girls! A medal is within reach! Jai604
Lots of Whitecaps ladies in there, cool stuff. If I didn't have class I would watch.
ckamo
Yup. Lots of ex-Caps too. I remember the days when the Whitecaps had Lang, Neil, Andrews, McLeod, Timko, Sinclair...well...essentially 3/4 of the National team. Canada down 2-0 at the half vs. Japan. They had a strong first 30ish minutes, but Japan came on late in the half and just started pouring on the pressure. USA and France tied up at 2 a piece at halftime. USA went down 2-0 early but Wambach scored on a head (surprise, surprise), and Alex Morgan got the 2nd back.

ckamo
I think that's what he meant. Our 2nd game is vs. South Africa, if we don't come out of it with the 3 points, the chances of us finishing with a good 3rd place record is quite slim. RUPERTKBD
Tough loss, but a decent showing against the WC champs. Terrible decision by the 'keeper on the 2nd Japanese goal. They need to put the boots to S.A. on Saturday...
hockeyville88
Every nation at the Games has at least one female competing for them. Sexual innuendo jokes about female athletes mean nothing anymore. Cheering the girls on and hoping they can rise to the challenge!
Hugemanskost
Nice win for the Ladies this morning after a shaky first half and an even shakier opening 7 minutes of the 2nd. Christine Sinclair is awesome! Arguably the best woman player in the world. 3-0 is just what Canada needed. The Sweden match Tuesday should be a gooder! Jai604
Big win, we needed as many goals as possible, and the clean sheet was important. Hopefully the ladies can pull it off against the Swedes. Sinclair was magic today.
ckamo
The loss of Robyn Gayle is fricken scary though. Down 3 defenders with Zurrer, Chapman and Gayle all possibly unavailable for the next game. Also, Abby Wambach full on got punched in the face by Lady Andrade in the USA vs. COL game. Andrade claims it was an accident...sure don't look accidental to me: http://blog.sfgate.c...ge-with-a-goal/

RUPERTKBD
The Canadians need a result against Sweden. finishing second gives them a much better match-up in the knockout stage. Not to be overly critical, but this team has a history of underperforming in important situations. It's time they went out and surprised us all in a good way... ckamo
Lauren Sesselmann has been slotted into the CN position. Gayle an Zurrer have been replaced by Booth and Nault the the roster.
