as far as i remember, he CAN NOT be traded for at least 1 calander year, right?

Yes, so I'm fairly sure on July 25th 2013 he will have a new team, its obvious he wants out

We'll see how good Suter actually is, without Weber.

Unbelievable!! Just rebuild already, they could have just shopped the 4 first round picks for better players, or kept them and pulled a Pittsburg or Edmonton and build through the draft.

I feel bad for Weber too, he obviously wanted out, now he's stuck for atleast another year if not more. He can always demand a trade but who would take that contract?

How can anyone feel bad for Weber? It's ridiculous. This offer sheet was about getting a bunch of guaranteed money for long-term before the new CBA. It wasn't about getting a fresh start , it was about getting paid. That's it.

Easy match. I liked how they waited a while to keep Shea and Philly in limbo. But good for them.

Expected, but you've gotta feel for Weber, being stuck in Nashville until the end of time.

He controlled his destiny.

Kinda thought they'd keep the 4 picks and have 11 million freed up from Weber's and Suter's contracts to really do something.

wow...

Anyway, frack you Philly..... LOL.

Suter will be fine. Suter will probably be better, now that he doesn't have to let Weber take all the shots. Suter already was playing elite defensively on Nashville. Weber, on the other hand is still inconsistent defensively. Suter allowed Weber to run around.

You would know, if you actually watched them play.

shea weber why didn't you wait just 1 more year your stuck with em now

Because with the new CBA he wouldn't be getting this kind of money. He wanted to strike it rich and waiting a year would compromise that.

How about how good Suter is without Weber? My guess is Weber continues to shine and Suter takes a fair dip in points, much like Ehrhoff

Expected.

PHI was stupid and tried to force NSH hand. Weber got want he wanted = $$$. NSH has it's captain and #1D (Norris trophy candidate every year) for the next 10-14 yrs. NSH just needs to upgrade the forward scoring depth. They will be scary if they ever get some legit snipers there.

Not surprising at all really, but now it will be interesting to see if Nashville will indeed trade him next year and how much they will be able to get for Shea Weber at full value and if Shea will even be happy in Nashville.

Suter doesn't have to change his game. Weber does. Don't know how Suter will dip in points, when he will finally be able to take shots now.

Good job Weber. You ruined your own career. If he had only waited one more year...

Oh, shut it.

Nashville's a very respectable NHL franchise. It's not their fault that they operate in a marketplace where hockey takes a back seat to football, basketball, and baseball (as it does in all other US cities).

Give me Nashville's management & scouting over ours, any day of the week.

As cocky and full of himself that hockeyinsiderr guy on twitter is, he's been calling stuff left right and center, he called this yesterday, called the Nash deal a couple weeks ago, and has gotten many others....but the dude needs to be a little more humble and stop acting like a brat

I really did not expect Nashville to have to the financial capacity to match this offer. As a Flyers fan, I'm glad they did match the offer; it was important for the future of their franchise-- both the players and the fans.

Shut it? Who's talking crap about Nashville? Weber clearly didn't want to be with Nashville because they couldn't compete. Now, he's stuck there for life. GG. It has nothing to do with Nashville being respectable or not.

correct me if i am wrong, but after year one of weber's new contract, can he not be traded?

it is clear that weber got the money and length of term he wanted, but is nashville truly his desired location?

following next season, would it be that far out of the question to see nashville trade weber, kind
of like in the NBA with all the "sign and trade" feals that occur.

i know it is unlikely after the amount nashville will pay weber in that one year alone, and i know it seems even more unlikely given the fact weber could have just signed a one year deal and then tested free agency, but with the new CBA coming soon, who knows if a 14 yr/110 mill deal could be signed.

who's to say weber is actually happy in nashville? is it still plausible he becomes a canuck down the road? maybe even next offseason.

i assume weber, along with the preds organization dont want this to turn into a kyle turris type of ordeal.

thoughts?

I disagree. 4 low first rounders are not even close to Webers worth. The flyers would have stolen him if the Preds didn't match.

everybody loses. Weber for being a douche and not signing a 1 year offer sheet and testing the free agency next year, Philly for being Philly and losing out, and Nashville for not having dealt him (or Suter) when they had ample time all last year and prior to trade deadline, draft, or July 1.

What do the Preds need to rebuild for? They are one of the most competitive teams in the league right now. Even with the loss of Suter I expect them to still be in the playoffs.

It's not like they're the Flames.

Gillis was right. The only way to get Weber out of Nashville was to convince him to sign a one-year offer sheet.

Other than the threat of losing him for nothing, there was no way that Nashville was going to let Shea go.
