The Sedin's 6th Sense
Lots of money, but I'm sure it was given to see if he's worth it for an extension after. ...Carolina just went from a non-playoff team to a 5th-8th playoff contender with this signing as it gives them a lot more balance with the forward group. Solid signing, like the move. J. Skinner - E. Staal - A. Semin J. Jokinen - J. Staal - T. Ruutu ...Solid top 6.
mau5trap
Great pick up for the Canes, at a good price. Real heart and soul player here Probably just sold himself to the highest bidder
-Vintage Canuck-
On July 21st (5 days ago) HockeyyInsiderr said it was going to be 1 year/$6.5M deal. Wow, he was pretty damn close.
Avicii
Uh... If we for sure didn't get Doan i would've done this.. For a year? I'd take him in a heartbeat. Still allows us to re-sign Edler and Burrows next year too.
grandmaster
I'm surprised he didnt go for a long term one before the CBA expiry. He could have guaranteed a longer future and more $ in the long run. Not smart on Semin's part at all.
ninja321
A bit pricey IMO. But Carolina looks good with their additions
Tystick
Hockeyinsiderr was on this. Hockeyy Insiderr @HockeyyInsiderr Onto some Alex Semin news:as previous reports indicate the#Canes are interested in him. Actual offer on the table as we speak = 1year/$6.5M Hockeyy Insiderr @HockeyyInsiderr BREAKING NEWS: Semin and his agent carefully considering offer on the table from #CANES. Carolina front runners as per my source (1yr offer) Those about to say that's not the right amount... ya no kidding, this was also posted 5 days ago, and things change. Props to him on this one. babych
I'm surprised Carolina offered him so much - it didn't sound like there was a huge bidding war for the guy. Still, a 1 year is pretty low risk and, as mentioned earlier, the team needed to get to the cap floor. Pretty decent top 6, though.
Bombastik der Teutone
7 million is a bunch of money even its for a year for a guy who has dropped from a 70- 80 points playe to a 50 + points player
canucks3322
he's good but not 7m good, but the Canes are looking like a dangerous team ..

johngould21
When these NHL franchises wake up and finally realize that you can't build an NHL team with 2 or 3 players that cost upwards of $12 to $23M, is there even a remote chance that a new CBA can be reached? They want a lower cap and a larger percentage, yet the Suter, Parise, Weber and now Semin deals make little or no sense on what they want to accomplish. Is Semin worth $7M? NO damn way! TOMapleLaughs
Called the one year. Hurricanes going to be fairly good this season. Making a push before Skinner's next contract.
Jägermeister
Nobody cares if Hockeyinsiderr "broke" this story a few days ago. Fact is he still gets things wrong very frequently, and until that stops, he isn't a credible source. Why does everyone feel the need to go showing it off to everybody like a kindergartener showing his mom a finger-painting?
votrechien
It's 1 year, who cares what he's making. He either proves he's a 7mil player or he doesn't. 1 year/7 mil, is a lot better than 6 years/30 mil for an on-again, off-again player like Semin. Teksys
Surprised by this signing. Thought he was for sure going to the pens, and 7mil is way too much. He's worth 5mil at most.
