I thought the Vancouver ceremonies were done pretty well for Winter Olympics. Winter Olympics are usually smaller scale. I think it's more fair to compare this with the Beijing Opening Ceremony

True.

They (UK) can afford to spend all this money though (nearly everything was already built LOL).

* I was just comparing the last Olympics, the only ceremony I can vividly remember :P

Thats true. But most people outside of Britain would have no idea what is going on. Do you think people in Asia, Afica, South America have a clue who most of these entertainers are. Especially the tv programs.

Doubt it. Everything has there up's and down's unfortuntely.

- 100% western world
* I like the multicultural aspect

The opening 30 minutes were stunning. The Industrial Revolution portion with Kenneth Branagh was fantastic. The soundtrack was tremendous and quite cinematic. I wasn't very fond of the Social Revolution segment, though.

Oh yeah, that was incredible. It was also said to cost about 100 million for that opening ceremony. They are saying the London one is about 42 mill.

Ephesians 2:7-9

"That in the ages to come he might show the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus.
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

It cost a lot more and China put A LOT of effort into it - They had the performers practically live in the birds-nest for a year, practicing everyday.

Better than our ceremonies.
It was just so perfectly British. From all the classic rock, to all of the character references. Mr. Bean and the Bond bit were great.
Extremely well done.

I am a fan of Branagh's work, which explains my enthusiasm upon seeing him again. He was the star of the show for the first twenty minutes. Overall, it was a decent display. The social gathering and musical evolution portion could have been executed differently, but I thought much of today's ceremony was entertaining.

solid presentation and storytelling... good to learn more about Britain through that presentation (though I had no idea before what G.O.S.H. or N.H.C. were, and some parts were slightly :bored: but) I think it would have been phenomenal at the venue.

Also, the cauldron looks pretty cool and Paul McCartney's performance wasn't bad at all!

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Jesus LOVES YOU!
2012, meet Matthew 24:36-47!

14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Watch Bowness somehow mess up Tampa Bay's already amazing 2 powerplay units...he'll probably tell Stamkos to do drop passes from centre ice, take him out from the faceoff dot, and place him infront of the goalie

Very good ceremony - there were multiple times where I was misty eyed and that, in my books, means it was a success

The idea to have kids light the cauldron was fantastic IMO. Sports has always been my life but as a kid i was told that nothing mattered other than school. I was told that unless I got straight A's I wasn't ever going to be a success. That sentiment is the furthest thing from the truth and kids need to know that. If they have a passion for sports or for the arts or for something other than academics, they need to know that it's ok to pursue it.

Allowing kids the honour of lighting the cauldron will ensure that the legacy of sports lives on into the future.

PS - glad there were no technical malfunctions with the cauldron this time <_<

The beginning and ending were great. I vaguely remember Beijing's, but I think it was better...

Very so-so, far too long, and if I have to see the leader of the red mitten gang ever again, I think I'll hurl! Wonder what his expense account will total for this event?

How long was our opening ceremony here in Vancouver again? It was shorter, I believe.

Ours was 3.5 hours but keep in mind that we had 82 Participant Nations and 2566 Athletes. London has 204 Nations and over 10,000 athletes. Just the parade of nations would make their opening go overtime!
