I think Eric is overrated. Marginal numbers for a player that is as highly touted as he is.

Staal is much better defensively than Henrik, and has a higher career ppg than Henrik. How can you say that he isn't in the same league as Henrik?? He's also far better in the playoffs and has won a cup, which Henrik might never do.

And Mike Knuble has more goals over the age of 30 than Gretzky did. Staal being better than Henrik defensively is entirely debatable as there are no stats to back up that claim. I'm not saying he isn't in the same league as Henrik, but Henrik also took way longer to develop than Staal did. If you compare the last four or five years of these guys' careers, Henrik blows Eric out of the water offensively speaking. Staal hit his peak early unlike Henrik but has appeared to max out around 70 - 80 points.

I wouldn't be suprised if he gets 80-90+ points next season with his brother and Semin

Eric Staal has always had consistently good point totals over his entire career, but he's only had one dominant season and it was a while ago so I would take Henrik at this point. But now with the talent surrounding him, he could have a big year.

Isn't weird that all the users with Paul Kariya in their display names underrate/hate every player on the canucks?

We'll see. There is obviously a few years difference between Henrik and Eric so perhaps Eric may get better. But players that do hit their peak early like him tend to not improve drastically beyond that unlike Henrik who went from 70-80 points to beast mode for a couple seasons. Just like Crosby, Stamkos, Ovechkin, Malkin. They all hit their peak very early in their careers but wont progress much more beyond that. Stamkos is never going to score 75 or 80 goals. He might get 70, but that's it. Ovechkin is never going to reach 70. Malkin and Crosby will never reach 150 points. One player can only dominate so much nowadays. Where their highest point totals are now is about the best you can come to expect from them.

But you have to consider he isn't surrounded by a bunch of offensive talent, sort of like a Rick Nash situation.

Idk man, Crosby's scary good. If he get's a full 82 games in, I could see him hitting 150 easy

I don't hate every player on the Canucks. How am I hating Henrik if I say Staal is better than him. If I made this poll in the Hurricanes forum the results would probably be the same, but with Staal winning

Yes. But for every case you can make, there are players that have gone the other way. Nash might become a beast to be feared in NY. He might not. So many people thought Heatley was going to dominate with the Sharks. The exact opposite happened.

Much better defensively? Henrik finished 23rd in Selke voting in 2011, Eric finished 33rd. You're thinking of Jordan Staal. People really crap on the Sedins' defensive abilities over here, but they're much better than quite a few of the other elite offensive talents in the league.

I think Henrik is the better player, but not by too much. Staal's size gives him versatility, and he is playoff proven.

Did he really finish that much higher than Staal or are you making that up?
