MrsCanuck
Wow. That's kind of surprising. I know there's a lot of events in the summer olympics but I'd expect a little more than that.
Kamero89
The Summer Olympics simply have too many unwatchable sports. Swimming in one of most watchable things, and yet tickets, and ratings went drastically down from days 1-3. Having that many swimming events makes one sick of it. Really who wants to watch ping pong on TV or power walking?
Common sense
I'm not sure on how tickets were distributed among people, but can't LOCOG at a certain point void the VIP tickets and put them all back up onto the market or do a re-selling option like VANOC did with its system? Certainly, I imagine people would rather pay more to be part of the experience rather than watch it at home - at least that was me with hockey. ChenWei91
I had absolutely no idea that water polo was an Olympic sport... I literally laughed the whole time while watching it... So ridiculous. Summer Olympics = Snooze fest
Sharpshooter
of those 82 countries, almost 40 of them sent fewer than 5 athletes, and about 20 of them sent only one. how many of them actually won anything? how many got absolutely embarrassed by their rich american, swedish, canadian, russian opponents? comparatively, the Summer games have 204 nations competing, and you can consult wikipedia to see how many people each country is providing. the comparison is hilarious, imo. but yeah, i get it, rah rah, vancouver olympics! woo! BC is the best! woo! let's pretend these X Games are a world wide sport!!! let's pretend hockey isn't for rich white people! for the rest of the world, it's an absolute snore. and nobody takes half pipe snowboarding seriously, do you? nux4lyfe
I haven't had a chance to witness many Olympics live expect for the one here, but if any of them come anything close to what i witnessed I'd consider them a success, what an unreal time! GLASSJAW
Who cares how many were sent? The point is that they represented their countries admirably, in the spirit of competition, with dignity. Embarrassing? Maybe to you....but you don't seem to understand what the spirit of the Olympics is really about. If it's a snore, then don't watch it. And yeah I take the half-pipe seriously, because for as long as i've been boarding or partaking in summer or winter activities, not in my wildest dreams do I think I'd be able to accomplish what those guys and gals a bit younger than me are doing with it. I find it incredible to watch knowing that unlike myself they don't seem to have limits to what they can do on a board. I fully support all the new Winter games Olympic games. Oh, and the winter games aren't the only occasion where countries compete with pride and dignity even if they lack the pedigree of other experienced nations....but I wouldn't expect you to understand the true meaning of words like honour, courage, dignity when the easy thing to do is to quit and not finish when you have no hope of winning, or not even participating in something because you have no hope of winning against those that are clearly superior. I have no doubt that you don't have a clue as to why people do.
Sharpshooter
Sorry Linus, not only do I fail to understand the spirit of 'what the olympics are all about(!!),' but I also don't care. So spare your characteristic and ever boring ranting and sentimentality. It has nothing to do with what I said, and I don't have the patience to read it Yes, the Winter Olympics are "less global" than the Summer Olympics, as highlighted by the numbers you thoughtfully supplied, and I responded with. While the "olympic spirit" may be with the South African doing the alpine downhill, it doesn't change the fact that he's competing against 10 Canadians, 35 Americans, and two Swiss guys with ginger dreadlocks. kyledude
It's certainly beginning to look like the illuminati games... it's such an exclusive club that "sold-out" venues are half-empty. It's a total slap in the face to sports fans who actually want to be there. I refuse to believe they could be that incompetent - but we'll see in the next few days if they can manage to get some butts in the seats because it's really embarrassing,
sixwings
I went to a Finland vs. Belarus game in 2010 and the arena was pretty empty. Maybe half full if that.
GLASSJAW
Well then go crawl back into your depressing emo cave and keep poo-pooing athletes that will accomplish more in failure than you ever will in your greatest success. Haters gonna hate. Like the rest of my Peanuts brethren all I hear out of your cynical cry-baby pie-hole is "Wahn-Wahn-Boo-Hoo-Wahn-Wahn"

Phil_314
Five Euros to go watch Olympic events? If I was in England I would go at the least for the basketball games (States vs. France?) and probably volleyball, gymnastics... How often do these spectacles allow attendance for such low prices? though it's such a shame that the I.O.C. delegates were not attending. So question is, why are they not attending? (Definitely not buying what Lord Coe said about the interest only being there for later rounds)

Ghostsof1915
They really need to do a serious look at the "sports" they have. They have table tennis but not rugby? And the comment on the under 23 in soccer. Until TSN made a big deal of it, did you watch the World Junior Championship in hockey? When they bring in Golf to the Olympics, then I'll stop watching in protest.
