If only he put up those numbers on his actual draft year...

instead of the 5-15 points he had every year before that? thats why he's not going to be an nhl'er. overage guys dominate 16-17 year olds so often in major junior and don't amount to anything, the next example will be mallet

burrows was undrafted and had to work his way up, mallet for some reason went in the 2nd round. he's not burrows

Mallet went undrafted 2 years. Maybe the Canucks having Burrows, saw the same in Mallet and that's why they drafted him so high. If Mallet starts in the ECHL he'll have to work his way up to the NHL like any other player.

Say this happened:

2011: Bob Smith - 50 goals, 80 points (drafted in first round) Alexandre Mallet - 10 goals, 19 points (undrafted)
2012: Bob Smith - 48 goals, 82 points. Alexandre Mallet - 34 goals, 82 points.

It's like they're at the same level, except one of them didn't have astounding stats in his eligible draft year. Being a late bloomer did not make him a bad pick. I'm actually excited to see how he turns out.

Mallet will not be in the ECHL. He'll either start in the AHL or NHL. No way he goes to the ECHL.

There's a rumor from some random tweet guy, (I don't use tweeter or w/e so i cant do whatever u guys do) that Guance may be in the deal that brings Bjudstad over.

it's a possibility, and I wouldn't be opposed to it. Bjugstad is bigger, stronger, and closer to an NHL career than Gaunce is.

there would certainly be more pieces ot the puzzle than lou and gaunce for bjugstad though.

You'd be stupid to not take Bjudstad over Gaunce. Gaunce still has questionable skating.

I can't see Gillis accepting a deal unless the Canucks a NHL ready player. Don't think Bjudstad will play in the NHL next season.

Milan Lucic, ring a bell?

Not to compare the two, but both of them came into the league as fighters then put up points when given opportunity.

Do you mean 2011-2012??

Because he put up 81points.

I think he's a very solid pick for our bottom 6 needs in the future.

no 2011-12 was his overage year. He's been passed over before. The year before he had 19 points, the year before that 10

But you don't think he was a good draft selection because he's a late bloomer?

What are your thoughts of Tanner Pearson?

he's another overhyped overager. 3rd liner at best

there's late bloomer, then there's 20 year old man playing against 16, 17 year olds who weigh 150 lbs. he did well this year because his team was stacked with talented players (mackinnon, drouin, etc) and he could just be a 3rd supporting player on a line, his points are a result of teammates, not his own talent

Pearson is the prototypical late-bloomer. Being draft eligible since 2010, Pearson has continued to work on his game and finally finds himself near the top of scouts' rankings. He had a breakout 2011-12 season. Scouts are impressed with his determination and his ability to create offensive chances. He plays with grit and tenacity, and uses his size to get in front of the net. Pearson needs to become a better skater, but you can expect him to work on it. If he improves his defensive game, expect him to surprise people at the next level.

at that pick absolutely. gaunce pick was fine, but to select an unranked player with 1 year of notice at all while tim bozon and damon severson were still available was a bad, bad pick.

Take him in the 5th round and it would've been a fne pick, the same thing edmonton did with laleggia

Bjugstad is going to finish his 4th season with the gophers next season, but he'll still be in the NHL before Gaunce. and yeah, it would have to be bjugstad plus other pieces, for lou and gaunce.

Mallet won't play his first NHL game until he's in his mid-20's at least. 19 points in the JUNIORS in his draft year and people actually expect him to do wonders in the NHL? Lol.
