Roster With Summary of Trade Rumours

Recommended Posts

Just sitting thinking of how the roster could shake up over the coming month based on all the speculation and rumours that are floating around.... and put them all together in one place.

Here are some of the types of moves being talked about and the resulting roster (maybe respond with your own version?)

Sign UFAs:

Doan (self explanatory)

Arnott (with Kesler out there is no better value option for the price)

Ellis (or any cheap veteran backup)

Trade:

To anyone... Ballard (I like him and barring getting another defenceman like the trade below we should keep him. With Kesler out we can even keep him for depth as we would have plenty of cap room)

Then Trade:

To Fla:

Luongo (needs to be moved in the relatively near future)

Hansen (someone that other teams would covet)

Schroeder (not likely to crack our roster)

Raymond (nice guy, but either move him in this trade or send him somewhere else, I would rather see Jensen get a crack than Raymond taking up a roster spot)

To Van:

Bjugstad (future roster player)

Upshall (needed for Florida to move out salary)

Ellerby (bottom pairing D with some upside... = younger&bigger)

The resultring roster is one that I think is certainly better on paper than last year's version (especially for playoff hockey) and adding Bjugstad to our prospect pool would be huge.

Don't trade Hansen or Raymond.

I believe Raymond is going to have a bounce back year, I think he'll hit 50 points.

you don't trade a player after just re-signing them, it makes you as a GM look bad.

And I don't believe this Bjugstad hype. He was pretty much a point per game player in college. That is not very great if you ask me. I'd rather see Gillis trade for a player with actual offensive upside cause our top lines aren't getting any younger.

Also, no point trading for a winger. I think Jensen will make the team this year, heck we could even put him with Shane Doan and Kesler or Burrows.

It is "possible" Raymond has a bounce back year, but he was looking bad before he got injured so the likelihood is getting remote and is not worth risking wasting a top 6 roster spot for that chance. If he fails to deliver this year he is entirely worthless as an asset and may not even be in the NHL for his next contract. Right now some GMs will look at Raymond and still be dazzled by his best year, hoping he can reach that again with a change of scenery (if you are hurting for offence you can talk yourself into anything).

You are mistaking trading a guy you signed as a UFA and trading one of your own players who you extended as an RFA. It is perfectly on the up and up to trade away Raymond.

Here is where I think our guys fit into the Florida roster in that trade, so I think it does provide them with some value... not that I know a ton about the Florida roster aside from reports.

Also, they can get a decent return for Theodore from Toronto/Chicago or wherever who still needs a goalie.

Let's not trade Hansen who would be a big contributor in a playoff run, more so than Upshall, and let's also not wreck our future after the Sedin's even more by trading Schroeder.

I'm not sure how people think this is fair, it's not brutal but I think they still win.

On CDC fair is us losing the deal.

Ummm... I think you have that backwards. For CDC, you can trade Raymond, Ballard, and a 1st for any player in the league.

Half of our fans are as bad as Toronto folks who wanted Luongo for some overpaid garbage and refuse to part with anything remotely useful.

You are wrong in effectively every bit of your post.

To consider Hansen as a core piece of the roster is silly. He is a decent and useful utility guy... but guys like him are a dime a dozen and easily replaceable.

Upshall may be highly overpaid, but to say he would be less useful than Hansen is simply wrong.

Schroeder is not going to be a replacement for either of our top 2 centres... the chances of it happening are ridiculously remote. If you think trading him and getting Bjugstad back in return is downgrading our prospects you are ignorant of any of the most rudimentary facets of hockey.
