with summer hockey news pretty much at a stand still, and the summer olympics wrapping up, it got me thinking about sochi 2014. i cant really see one canuck player suiting up for team canada for those olympics. ( that is if nhl players participate). looking at the current team, there are not any canadian players that i could see making team canada. hamhuis, garrison, beiksa maybe, but canadas defence is deep. burr? doubt that as well.. maybe kassian if he jus goes beast mode on us this season and next. In 2010 we had lou, which was pretty sick, but i doubt we have a canuck tto cheer for in 2014.

i know it doesnt really matter, cuz team canada is our team , but it is kinda nice to see a canuck wearing the red and white and playing for our nation. adds jus a little something on top of the great olympic hockey.it kinda forces vancouver haters to cheer for a canuck for once haha

( i also realize that we will have the sedins and edler playing for sweden, and cory for the usa, which is def a good thing.)

so what im asking is do u guys/girls think that we will have a cnd represent the canucks in sochi 2014? pretty sure it would have to come from a trade in the next year cuz i dont see any of our draft picks or current players making team canada. anyways comments are apprecitated,

POPULAR

Although most people will likely disagree.

Hamhuis is a possibility.

Although a slim chance with Weber, Doughty, Pietrangelo, M. Staal, Letang, Keith and Seabrook as probable locks.

If Garrison keeps putting up double digit totals in the goals column and 30+ points a year, you never know. But Hamhuis is the most likely unless a young prospect makes a massive splash.

Yup, that's our most likely Canadian International for the moment.

Watch Bowness somehow mess up Tampa Bay's already amazing 2 powerplay units...he'll probably tell Stamkos to do drop passes from centre ice, take him out from the faceoff dot, and place him infront of the goalie

Extremely unlikely anyone on our team will compete for TEam Canada unless LUongo is still with us.

November 20th 2013, Canucks just lost their 5th straight game. Last time this happened the Canucks, they missed the playoffs.

Lou won't be with us but I could see him as 3G behind Price and Fleury. I'd say a toss up between him and Ward. Maybe Hammer, maybe Garrison. But doubt either

Yeah - but one of those could have an injury at the time, or being under-performing.

It's highly unlikely but possible.

Hamhuis has the biggest shot but behind Weber, Piets, Doughty, Letang, Keith, chances are slim..
Burr will have to compete against Tavares, Stamkos, Crosby, Giroux, Toews, Bergeron, Nugent-Hopkins, Duchene, Thornton, etc. Etc. And i don't see him making it

Hamhuis > M. Staal

Add in potential injuries, and Hamhuis is a strong possibility...but not a lock.

Other possibilities: Campbell, Girardi, Del Zotto (sooo jealous of NYR), Burns, Giordano...

I doubt Hamhuis makes it. With all great Canadian players out there, it will be tough for Burrows to get in as well.

Who says Luongo won't be on the Canucks in 2014 :bigblush:

And I think Burrows and Hamhuis have a decent chance. Not all star players are chosen - eg. Morrow over Stamkos....Players that do the small, sometimes unnoticed things (smart defensive plays, backcheck etc.) are important for a team as well.

You can't have a team full of Crosby's, Stamko's and Ovechkin's (or maybe you could assuming they outscore everyone, every game) because no one will be playing defence...

to far away still, you never know what can happen with this canuck team by 2014
-maybe the goalie trade brings us a Canadian player with a chance to make it to team Canada
-maybe lu doesn't get traded because he's 26-4 by the time trade deadline comes around
-maybe we sign Perry or getzlaf

I hope by 2014 we have a top Canadian player to represent team Canada and Vancouver

Giradi's American. Hamhuis and Bieksa should both definitely receive consideration. Canada's pretty deep in elite right-sided dmen (Weber, Doughty, Pietrangelo) so I think Hamhuis has a better shot.

Letang-Weber
Keith-Doughty
_____-Pietrangelo
_____

I really see two spots being open, with Seabrook, Hamhuis, Staal, Burns, Bieksa, Subban, and others fighting for them. Add in injuries and Hammer could have a decent shot.

its sad, but I dont think any of our guys have a shot, unless Luongo is still with us. It really makes me wish we had more Canadian stars on this team. I know Burrows played in the Worlds, but we have to remember Burr is going to be 33, and as much as I love him as a player, I cant see him on the club with all the talent this country has.... Virtually every player on the potential roster is THE franchsie player capable of playing in any and all positions for their NHL club.

Nash-Crosby-Giroux
Toews-Stamkos-Seguin
EStaal-Getzlaf-Perry
Eberle-Nugent-Hopkins-Hall
JStaal

Weber-Doughty
Keith-Letang
Peitrangelo-Del Zotto
Girardi

Price
Luongo
Ward

burrows is one of the best canadian penalty killers in the league and had a very good world championships. depending on how they make up the 4th line will determine if he makes the team. if i was making the team i would probably take him over another scoring winger on the 4th line.

jordan staal and burr would make a pretty sick shutdown duo.

oh my goodness, that would be sooo beautiful!!! (borrows and jordan staal)... totally agree with you though. we do need to have some defensive minded forwards out there. you can get around weak offense, but weak defense is going to lose!!not that we have any weak offense playing for team canada, that was just something to back up my point ;) and i also think that hamhuios and burrows are probably our best shots at making team canada...maybe bieksa also.

Hamhuis will be invited to camp. The guy is a steady rock solid shutdown d-man. Just look at his +/- from the past 2 seasons.

People saying Price and Fleury are the top 2 guys and Lu might be the 4th or 5th goalie is stupid. Lu is the guy to beat for team Canada 2014. If he is healthy and playing like he has been he will be on the top and Fleury and Price will have to take the job from him. Just like Luongo did from Brodeur.

Right now Lu is the guy just because he is the recent gold medal winning goalie. Unless Lu is injured or just goes down hill in the next 2 seasons, Lu will be the guy the beat.

My order would be Lu, Fleury and then Price. Absolutely do not get why Price is somehow the undisputed goalie for team Canada as if the guy has done so much. Fleury is a whole lot more proven then Price...
