Nope. They may be improved, but they're still a mile away from even challenging for a spot. Plus, they have no real superstar forward now and it's very tough to win by committee, especially when you suck in the first place, which is what they will have to do.

Columbus actually has pride. They were trying to win games towards the end of the season, even though they could lose the first overall draft pick. Whereas Edmonton, the city that tanks, "lost" games in the first period.

They have a good group of guys. They won't finish last. But I don't like their forward group. I don't think they come close to making the playoffs.

Buddy I called this EXACT situtation on here two years ago and was flamed, so I guess I have a bit of hockey knowledge, not to mention the 4 years I played in the OHL idiot.

Oh really? :picard: No crap, genius.

It's an opinion poll, obviously.

And no, I don't think the Blue Jackets will make the playoffs.

I was just saying it's kind of a weird option to have up there. But whatever, it's not a big deal.

An old classic from Jim Mora of the Indianapolis Colts, but applies for this question.

Columbus is in an interesting position. They have great forward depth but no 1st line players. Not a single one. They have at least 3 guys that need to be traded to aquire either good picks or a couple top line guys like jumbo joe thorton, iginla, morrow, gagne, gionta...
They have prospects that could some day play a 1st line role but even there they dont have anyone who stands out as an elite future forward.
If they could find a way to pick up two 1st liners they could have amazing 2nd and third lines.
A second line of Dubinsky, brassard atkinson would be great
a third line of foligno, ansimov, umberger would kill
mackenzie dorsette and anyone else would be a great 4th line.
the problem is they want to use these players in roles they cant excel in.
I'd move prospal, boll, gillies.
Johansen and atkinson could maybe be part of a first line in a couple of years but again id pick up some older guys to fill that role until they are ready and hold on to the 2nd and third liners i have now.
The jackets did do something huge this offseason whe they chose oskar dansk in the 2nd round. Everyone has a hard-on for subban and the russian but dansk probably has more upside than any of the goalies in the draft. If they develop him right they will have an elite starting tender in 4ish years.

Anyways no they will not make the playoffs. No team and succeed when their players are being put into roles they are no suited for or not ready for. Unless you are the coyotees and the nhl really wants to make sure they dont have to be relocated.

My 2014 Draft wishlist: 1st rd: Draisaitl, Virtanen, Scherbak. 2nd rd: Brendan Lemieux, Thatcher Demko (Goalie)

There's just no way that they're going to finish ahead of 7 teams in the Campbell Conference. Maybe Minny, Colorado, Dallas, and Calgary. 11th place, at best. 10th if another team suffers a plane crash.

Clearly the question is rhetorical. Blue Jackets don't have a shot in hell.

They don't have a single top line forward, a single top pair defenceman , or a starting goaltender.

They'll be lucky if they're not in the basement
again.

I predict they'll be in the running until January... ...say, about 12 games into the shortened season.

That 3rd line is better than there first.

I would have it like this

Umberger - Dubinsky - Atkinson
Prospal - Johansen - Brassard
Foligno - Anisimov - Dorsett
Boll - Mackenzie - Gillies

Johnson - Tyutin
Wisniewski - Murray
Aucoin - Nikitin

Mason
Bobrovsky

Maybe they can package up Brassard for a top six winger or two.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

Loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool. No. He's awful defensively. And he's hit 40 points once.

edit: I wouldn't trade any of our top 4, or Tanev for Jack Johnson.
