AVS Sign Giguere to One-Year Contract Extension

The Colorado Avalanche have signed goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere to a one-year, $1.5 million contract extension, according to RDS.

Giguere, 35, had a 15-11-3 record with a 2.27 goals-against average and .919 save percentage last season.

He has appeared in 557 career NHL games, posting a 246-206-45 career record with a 2.52 goals-against average, .915 save percentage and 36 shutouts.

He also has 52 career postseason games to his resume, where he's compiled a 33-17 record with a 2.08 goals-against average and .925 save percentage.

Selected by Hartford in the first round (13th overall) of the 1995 Entry Draft, Giguere has spent 13 years in the NHL with the Hartford Whalers, Calgary Flames, Anaheim Ducks and Toronto Maple Leafs.

JS Giguere was f**king awesome. One of the best goalies in the league at one point in his career. Good back up goalie still.

Solid signing from the AVs, gives them a good back up for Varly until one of their prospects are ready. (if they even have one)

He'd be the perfect backup for Schneider, so he's probably the perfect backup for Varlamov.
