Yeah 18 and 19 year old chicks in the 70s didn't look anything like they do now. hehe.

Yeah, no kidding! A while back I was hanging with this chick I thought was 19, turns out she was barely 15! The scary part is I truly couldn't tell!

metal album art is generally silly drawings of goblins or monsters, how menacing and scary! not my thing at all. they're like those late 90's hip hop album covers where people are draped in gold and surrounded by pit bulls

although that mastodon one (with the whale) is really cool.

anyway, my vote:

were you born an asshole or did you work at it your whole life?

no name calling please

i'm allowed to voice my opinion, and my opinion that drawings of goblins and monsters are stupid. i think fantasy novel cover art is lame too.

that type of art is like a parody of its own genre, just like those hip hop album covers that were covered in genre stereotypes, or a long-haired Yanni looking introspective into the ocean or something. it's just silly.

Well my opinion is I find it mildly ironic that a guy named after a band that began their career as a post-hardcore/ heavy metal act in 1993 thinks he has any frame of reference to say anything snide about metal in the first place.

i thought we were discussing album art, not the music itself. i can enjoy metal on occasion, just in small doses. and i did enjoy glassjaw like 10 years ago, too. although i'm pretty sure i liked the band's name much more than their actual music (although i did like that 'ry ry's song' track!). what they did in 1993 or since i graduated high school, i couldn't care less about. only keep this name because it has such a glowing reputation attached to it!

Nice call, GLASSJAW. Our band were discussing covering "Train In Vain" today.

Here's something to think about... The green and pink lettering of "London Calling" and the yellow, green, pink and melon covers of the Sex Pistols "Never Mind The Bollocks"... You think they might have been a poke at Warhol and Pop Culture of the time? The Pistols and Clash just saying, "Screw You!" one more time at all that was hip?

I think the Clash was more of a nod to the history and (then) current state of rock. From Elvis to Punk!

Saga's Images at Twilight and Silent Knight albums have some pretty neat cover work. The former was released in 1979, and the latter was released a year later.

It's surprising that so many believed them to be from Europe. They're actually from Ontario.

In spoiler tags, I've embedded some of their music from their first four albums.

For sheer levels of disturbing, can't beat Aphex Twin
