No.
Middle school is between Elementary and High school.
I don't think we have middle school in BC...
I believe my dad, for instance, did Elementary from 1-6 middle from 7-9, highschool from 10-13 or something (apparently they had 13 grades in Ontario in the 60's/70's.

Anyways...
Kitchener was my elementary, alpha was my high school.

I went to Kerrisdale Elementary (K-7) and Point Grey Senior Secondary (8-12) in Vancouver. Loved them both. I had a total blast at high school! :)

I now teach Math, Science and Music at Dawson Creek Senior Secondary. Best career ever! ::D

If you enjoy being around and working with kids, it's definitely for you. Don't teach for a "job". Lots do and it shows.

Teaching is a ton 'o' fun! If you can put aside all of the political BS and paper-pushing, that is. There's a lot more to teaching than instruction and grading, that's for sure! It gets frustrating sometimes, but, the kids make it totally worthwhile.

I'm paranoid enough that I don't want to give out that kind of info. I am however waiting to see if anyone else went to the same schools as me.

If/when there is a middle school.

Primary: kindergarten - Grade 6
Middle : Grade 7-9
High: Grade 10-12

It's changed from when I was in school, where I went to an elementary of grades K-7 and high school was 8-12. We had junior highs as well, grades 8-10 that fed into the main high school for the area which shared the 8-10 load but had all the 11s and 12s.

Now it's gone to the middle school practice, but I'm so far removed from that I don't pretend to have the details.

I swear I am not trying to pick on you tonight, but I've heard with the cuts coming to the industry from the Province, it would be nearly impossible for young teachers to get a start. That not only are there no spots for new grads, but employed teachers are losing their jobs.

I swear I am not trying to pick on you tonight, but I've heard with the cuts coming to the industry from the Province, it would be nearly impossible for young teachers to get a start. That not only are there no spots for new grads, but employed teachers are losing their jobs.

The issue is more one of declining enrolment in most districts in BC. Fewer kids means fewer jobs for teachers, in general, and fewer dollars for districts as they are funded on a per student basis. Surrey and Peace River North are 2 districts that are still increasing in numbers, which is rare, these days. There have been big cuts in Specialty Teaching - things like ESL, Special Ed and Counselling - in the past decade, or so. Cuts are always a big pain in the ass for everyone involved in Education.

It is true, in some districts, that experienced teachers are being laid off and not being re-hired. In Peace River South, we lay off teachers every year, just like in Vancouver. Some get re-hired, some don't. Those who don't get re-hired work on the TOC list, move to a district where there is work or, sometimes, quit.

This is a simplified version of what is going on in teaching here in BC. Until families have more kids, things will keep moving in the same, negative direction funding-wise.

This is the political bullish!t which I was referring to in an earlier post. Put this aside, which is a challenge, and teaching is the best career there is, IMO. I really do love it.

PS - No worries about the "picking on me", dude. It's all good. It is to be expected on an internet forum. I only know you from what you say in your posts and, as we all know, senses of humor and sarcasm are sometimes tough to pick up on the Web. ::D
