11 year $41 Million contract for a $3.75 Million cap hit $10 Million on the first year and $5 Million for the next two. Plus a $3.75 Million dollar signing bonus.

I'd go 3.5 x 5 Year or 4.0 x 4. People have to keep in mind that the cap is going to keep going up and so to will the average salary. These numbers will look pretty reasonable at the end of the contract term.

Key word "was" a third liner. He now plays like a 2nd liner/fringe 1st liner, and great chemistry with the Sedins.

If Sedin, Sedin, Kesler, Booth, Bieksa, Hamhuis, Garrison, Ballard, Schneider, and Luongo can all be paid 4+ million, Burrows getting that much shouldn't even be an argument.

True, but I'm cheap and if I was a GM I'd have trouble spending to the cap floor.

(Burrows is currently one of the only Canucks I like so I'd love for him to stay. I just feel beyond $3m isn't wise.)

imo one of the greatest all time canucks already. not skillwise, but one of the greatest men to put on a canucks jersey.

-takes way more abuse than anyone from top defenders due to fishing the puck out for the twins for all these years now
-comes through in the most clutch moments, and not just a sedin banking the puck off him but taking the game in his own hands
-took the biggest discount to help the team sign better players
-always the last player off the ice high fiving every guy before he heads down the tunnel
-is the absolute definition of hard work. not only was even making the ahl an extremely long shot, but he found a way to compliment 2 of the best players in the world and stick on the top line of a top contender in the nhl
-is also one of the best penalty killers in the league

i understand the argument that he really should be a second third liner, but he's done so much for this team that he deserves his paycheque this time around. if they let him walk for anything under 4.5 ill be pissed. i dont think he would make them pay that much but if it really comes down to him staying or leaving, id give it to him. your not going to find a free agent for that much that will bring as much as he brings

Fortunately, you are not the GM of the Canucks.

God bless.

Purcell just re-signed for 3yrs, $4.5mil per. If Burrows accepts less than that, then he is indeed taking another paycut.

I'm more worried about an Edler deal than Burrows. Burr deserves anywhere in between 4-5 mill and will get it. Edler is going to demand at least 5-5.5 which wont look nice on our cap situation. We could be getting in trouble here...

No way does burrows get more then 3.5 per year. Take the sedins away and you have a 2/3rd liner who can play that grinder/pk/chip in a gold type of player. 4 year 14 million makes a lot of sense.

Burrows value is highly related to the Sedins staying. Playing with the Sedins, Burr is easily worth 4 mill. Without the Sedins, I'd say no more than 3. So if he signs 3.5 for 4 years then if the Sedins stay, it's a bargain and if they don't, we haven't overpaid by too much.

Easy to fix.....malholtra and Raymond free up almost $5 mil and we can find a cheaper damn than Ballard at 4.2. Plus player revenue roll backs.

That's next years problem not this year!

Interesting news, Maybe MG plans on trading Burrows if he can't be signed to an extension at reasonable $. If he asks for too much MG might trade him while he can get a good return with 1 full year remaining on Burrow's current contract.

For those not old enough to remember this is exactly what happened when Burrows signed his last extension approaching trade deadline in 2009.

Burrows did not take a huge discount when he signed his last contract. He had recently started playing with the Sedins and the line clicked. Burrows could have gotten a little more but he didn't take millions less to stay with the Canucks.

No one at the time knew Burrows would score close to 30 goals per season for 3 straight years and become one of the Canucks' most clutch players. Burrows ended up being the best bargain in the entire NHL.

I think Burrows could get close to $4.5 mill per year on a 5 year deal as a UFA. It's going to be hard for MG to pay him that kind of money/caphit.

Or maybe MG might sign Burrows to a life time, front loaded contract to artificially keep his cap hit down.

People saying Burrows doesnt deserve 4 million are just stupid.
This guy deserves MUCH more than that. Doesnt he have the most 5 on 5 goals in the past few years or something?

Put it out long-term to get the cap hit down.

Front load it so he gets some cash now and we can all see what he's like when he is 35 and over.

Hard nosed management calls for a discount for finger-biting and hair-pulling.

Something like:
1st year $5m.
2nd year $4m.
3rd year $3m.
4th year $2m.
5th year $1m.
$3m cap hit.

Burrows is the type of player who I wouldn't mind giving a "lifetime" contract. You know he'll always show up and give it his all.

Eight years, 23 million

6 - 5 - 3 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 1 - 1

He gets his money now, and the team has him for only a 2.875 million cap hit. Would expire when he's 39.

Really? Wow!!!

I love Burrows but if he left the Canucks, oh well, move on.

$4m per is too much, $3.5m per, tops

Umm huh? he has the third highest +/- in the league over the last 3 years, scores 30 mainly even strength, very little pp time, kills penalities, heart and soul of this team, he is one of the most important players in this organization. MG knows it and he will be paid accordingly. He will take the discount as everyone has to stay but he will be paid fair.

I see 5 yrs (retires a canuck)

4.5
4.5
4.5
4.0
3.5

Avg of 4.2, 5 yrs $21 million.

If he wants, he could get similar money to an Andrew Ladd. I'm sure he could make $4.5 million on the open market, and that's too much for the Canucks to pay. If he wants to stay in Vancouver, a $3 million cap hit is reasonable. Otherwise I'll be happy for him playing elsewhere. I'm sure he's great in the locker room, but he's replaceable.

I would go for a long term deal, if it would bring down his cap hit. Because he's under 35, is there anything to stop us from giving him a 10-year, $20 million deal ($1 million per year, $10 million signing bonus)?

He got an agent this time, thank god! Last time he used his Dad as his agent, look how that turned out.

Burrows is worth 4 but I wouldn't go more than 3 years. Love ya Burr.

Honestly as much as I love him, I think it's a good time for him to bank what he's really worth. I can't believe he signed for so low, but it kind of feels like we took advantage of him. If another team can offer him better then all the power to him.

At the time, the market and his role on the team justified his payment....it just looks low cause of what he became after he signed..

True, I'd say Kesler's number are more inflated because of the Sedins than Burrows. Kesler's really benefit from playing 1st line PP.

Are you sure about this? I remember there was talk that MG had out manoeuvred Burrows' agent during the last negotiation by saying there was a trade on the table if Burrows doesn't sign extension. Burrows was set to be UFA at the end of the season.

This was more than 3 years ago (close to trade deadline 2009) but I think he had an agent I believe the same one he has now. I don't recall hearing Burrows changed or hired an agent over the past couple of years.

Burrows' goal in game 7 OT vs Chicago was the most important and "clutch" goal scored by a Canuck since Bure's OT goal vs the Flames during the 94 Run.

28M over 8 years. 3.5M cap hit. and not a 35+ contract so doesn't count against team if he retires.
