Twins were never 100 point players until they got Burr on their wing. They became more dangerous off the rush once they started playing with Burrows.

4.5 is not too much for a player who:
  • Works as hard as anyone on this team, and harder than most.
  • Can score 25 goals even strength
  • Is a good fit on any of the top 3 lines
  • Is one of the best penalty killers in the league
  • Is capable of actually scoring in the shootout
  • Is a royal pain in the rear to play against
  • Is a favourite of both fans and teammates
  • Has already proven to be a team-first player by taking a discount
  • Can play either wing effectively
  • Scores clutch goals in the playoffs
Make sure Burr retires a Canuck, MG.

Agreed. Our 5 on 5 play IMO is getting worse and worse....and taking away Burrows from that will not make it any better...

The time to get the most for Burrows is now and just after we sign him. Sure he is a core guy, but it'll take something to gain something. If we want a top 6, then we'll have o move someone like him. He will only get worse and take longer to recover from injuries. We need to trade him now while he has value. Hate to do so, but need to pony up in order to take it to the next level.

We aren't trading Burrows. Why would even think of something that stupid? Thank god you're not the GM.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

Didn't Burrows negotiate without an agent last time around?
Think he will stay with the "team 1st" type discount but not a huge one.
The team is making $$ no need for him to take a big discount while Mr. A lives high off he hog IMO

if i know burrows the way i think i do, it shouldnt be hard to come to terms

I'd offer him that for sure. I'd actually be happier with a longer term and a bit more per year.. Burrows is a character guy, we want to keep him. :)

Why would be so stupid as to not consider ways to improve the club via trade? Tunnel vision ain't for hockey my friend. You gotta give something to get something in sports and in business in general. With Burrows and + we could probably land an even better top 6, one that would make us forget quickly about Burrows.

the thing i love about burrows is he knows what it means to take a pay cut to have a team stay competitive he knows he doesn't need to get paid 5 million a year even though he easily could because he is doing something he loves its a shame there aren't more players like him because then players would be signing with teams they want to be with not which one gives them the biggest pay check

/end rant

I'd sign him for 3 years. The Sedins have 2 years left and heaven forbid they want to leave or return to Sweden that would give the Canucks management 1 season to evaluate Burrows without them.

Based on production alone, his value is upwards of $5M. But I think they could get a deal done in the $4M range. Fair for both sides.

Burrows is the kind of player that is worth much more to the Canucks than in trade. Trading him wouldn't very likely not improve the club, because other teams wouldn't value him as much as we do.

I see him signing for 3.75ish max. per season.

add at least another million, Burrows should be making close to Kesler money.

28,25,26,38 goals since 2008 respectively. 50+ point player.

This guy is a 30 goal scorer with the Sedins, 20+ without. He's probably our best defensive player, easily the most clutch player our team has, and the hardest worker.

Up to 4.5mil would be fine.

Thats a pretty acurate guess IMO.

Considering he's already signed for next season, that offers us 4 more years in total. A good length for a guy who will then be 35. 4 extra years, even if for a bit less is not a great idea...

It also pays him $4.5 which is similar other players with his numbers. And for those who argue the Sedin's boost these, he makes whatever line he plays on better. One of the single best role players in the league, and also capable of pulling front line duty; Burrows is a valuable player!

3 years, $13.5M

Who will make fans here forget about Burrows? His value to another team will be diminished as there would be a chance he could revert to 3rd line numbers if not with the Sedins. There is also a chance the Sedins don't have chemistry with whoever you bring in, a player that would cost more than Burrows if it was to improve the top six. The one line on the Canucks that has shown great chemistry for the past few years and this is the line we want to tear apart?

4 years, 16 million makes sense and he stays with the Canucks.

He took his share of a paycut last time around and I certainly don't expect him to take one this time around as well. He deserves to be paid and I hope the Canucks don't hesitate one bit to give him what he deserves. Great news that they have started negotiating.

I like burrows but can't help but think the Sedins boosted his play. He should get the salary of a 'good' second liner IMO.

Burrows is a successful player because he can play anywhere in the lineup, of course not centre.

The guy is so versatile.

Reality says the also lockout mucks up that chance, unless parties are stupid.

If Burrows takes say $8 mill this year as part of a 7 year $25.5 deal he risks getting nothing for his front load which makes no sense for him.

Unless the Canucks package a pile of that as a signing bonus, which makes no sense for them if there is a lockout.

Plus these types of deals are generally structured to woo a guy to come or stay, Burrows also wants to be here.

If Burr signs now, it may be to take advantage of current CBA rules.

Retirement contract with a low cap hit? Why not? We'll see.

I am also curious where we are at with Edler, and whether he values staying? He's so quiet, hard to know what he is thinking?

But a long term deal with Edler, who is just entering his prime (not 31 playing a high wear and tear style as per Burr) a life time deal makes more sense. Edler has just achieved all star status and will likely be there for a few years, he can really help the Canucks the next few years!

Sorry, clearing caps like Malhotra and not paying raises to Higgins, plus elevating ELC's (Kassian, Gaunce and Jensen) affords Edler. Yes we should clear Higgins if he wants a raise. He has not won a permanent 2knd line role, and as hard working and versatile as he is, we also miss the size of someone like Torres in his role. If Higgins re-signs, it needs to be in his current salary range, and he can be a great depth player who can move up. Otherwise he is certainly replaceable.

I'm more worried about an Edler deal than Burrows. Burr deserves anywhere in between 4-5 mill and will get it. Edler is going to demand at least 5-5.5 which wont look nice on our cap situation. We could be getting in trouble here...

this guy has been the most consistent Canuck player we've had in the last 4 years. He's clutch and hes been a 35+ goal scorer. he was injured last year and missed some time but with a full training camp and summer training he'll be ready and might be able to pot 40 this year. he'll get david booth money at most but I'd still take that considering the cap is going up every year.

wow really? thirty goal scorer with heart ant a team first attitude. Thats a major insult to a guy who took a big discount last contract. 4 million for five years. Lock him in. Burr is the kind of guy who will do even better after a contract...not slack off.

This ends up being a very tradable contract down the road as well. Heart and soul goal scorer at a good cap hit with decent term.

I think that's about right. Burr could probably earn more elsewhere but will once again be reasonable and take a little less to continue to play with the twins.
