Colbourne, the kid is 6'6". I know Blugstad is 6'5", but Colbourne has the makings to be a big nasty center

Colborne is a big, nasty center...minus the nasty. Plays like Taylor Pyatt.

I'd take Bjugstad over him for sure. In fact, I'd take Bjugstad and a 2nd over Colborne and a 1st (assuming Leafs will make playoffs with Luongo in net).

I'd rather have Bjugstad over Colborne.

its funny how people write off our prospects but nut over other teams.

colborne is older than schroeder by a year
put up pretty much the same points as schroeder

so really is it just his size that is appealing? granted ive never seen colborne play but just looking at his statline besides his height it isnt that impressive.

I'm not sold on Colborne, this is a huge underpayment.

Should have taken Schenn when he was offered if we wanted to deal with TOR. WALK AWAY GILLIS.

Whatever team gives us a 1st + for luongo, you can guarentee it wont be before the 15th overall because luongo will bring that team to the playoffs.

The defence of said team could be the worst though.

Forget Colbourne. Third team @ 22 years of age if this happened. Clearly the previous two didn't place a whole lot of stock in the guy.

Colbourne's value is probably similar to Cody Hodgson's, is it not? He has potential to be a big, two-way, top-6 forward.

Perhaps but Cody didn't bring us a franchise player in return. Cody has way more of a ceiling than Colborne IMO. If Colborne becomes a regular good third liner I will be impressed. Colborne may be a good starting point but If it is straight up or even with a late round draft pick Canucks get hosed period.

Vancouver gets hosed unless the pick is a 1st to go alongside Colborne. The one positive thing about the trade is the fact Toronto is not sending a dump back.

1st & Colborne is something I would consider.

Obviously not going to happen though. I've said it a million times but Luongo will end up in Florida GUARANTEED!

If this is what gillis is actually considering or has been offered at the moment, we should've freaking ran with Schenn + 1st months ago!!!!

I find it funny that who could be Toronto's starter right now is Boston's starter :P

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

The trade is 90% complete....

I wouldn't mind a deal like that. Colborne + TO's 1st would be a suitable return for Luongo.

Suitable, how?

We're giving away our consistent, reliable goaltender, for a guy who'd be a member of the Chicago Wolves.

.... unless he goes to Toronto

Yeah, Lunongo is good but I doubt he gets them in. The Canucks had a good system even when the payers weren't there and Toronto is just ... well Toronto.

Rumor has it - according to Botchford - that Luongo blocked that deal.

Just wanted to point something out>

Nick Bjugstad
2010--2011 University of Minnesota 29gp, 8 goals, 12 assists, 20 points
2011-2012 University of Minnesota 40gp, 25 goals, 17 assits, 42 points

Joe Colborne
2008-2009 University of Denver 40gp, 10goals, 21 assists, 31 points
2009-2010 University of Denver 39gp, 22 goals, 19 assists, 41 points

Im not saying one player is better than the other, but frankly it is quite annoying (or funny depending on how you look at it) when I hear things like "Nick Bjugstad is the second coming of Wayne Gretzky, but Joe Colborne is COMPLETE BUST"

If we did acquire Bjugstad, lets suppose he played in the Ahl next. If he scored 16-20 goals ( the same as Colborne) is he suddenly a bust too? Is he expected to score 40 or we got ripped in the trade?

All I'm saying is that people's opinions are very scewed on this board. We could be offered some 120 point player from the Q who is the equivalent to Brandon Reid, and people would probably go for it.Just like how Mason Raymond was untouchable two years ago and primed to score 30 the next season.

I just don't get why people would be dissapointed with Colborne, especially if he came with a 1st or 2nd. Its alot better than some of the "I don't care what it takes just get Bjugstad, throw OUR 1st in with Luongo just to seal the deal" posts that I've seen.

Since no one else has picked up on this (more reliable local media, national media) I'd tend to agree with djsandwiches.

Don't know why, but I find this line, when taken out of the context of a message board discussion, hilarious.

Hmmm, I think I need more sleep.

And it's funny how people are saying that we've should've gotten Schenn when we had the chance. When 2 months ago everyone was saying he was overrated because he's been scratched a few games. 6 months before that Luke Schenn was a "physical young stud who had top shutdown pairing potential". Make up your mind CDC.

A starting goalie who makes 5.33M replaced by a young and unproven goaltender..... Yup, sounds reliable.
