[Discussion] The Doan Meta-Thread v2.0

Recommended Posts

If Shane Doan signs with the Canucks, it may impact Burrows:

“As you know, we have had talks with both Shane personally and with Shane’s representative (Terry Bross),” Gilman said. “We have tendered an offer. At this point, Shane is looking at his alternatives and we are waiting for him to decide what he wants to do.”

If a forum can't take a 60 page thread, something is wrong.

I do understand the tech actually, and you are wrong about the programming. it would be foolish to query everything you see on the screen every time you go to it, summing up all the post counts, and the lastest users, etc etc. What is happening is that after each child update, a set of statistics (aka the cache) is updated and that is what is served. And that is probably cached in memory on the database server if it is done right (which it probably is) - that is out of the box ms sql server, no tweaking required (frequent requests are cached and re-indexed all the time). To suggest that each user view generates all that info each time is crazy! Surely you don't mean that.... Now the user may be a tiny bit out of date (seconds!), but who cares?

Anyways, the web page can easily take it, so why the extra post? But who really cares? It just makes all that info that was discussed out of sight out of mind. and it's august, so chill.. You are right about the possibility of having huge overhead if the site was made by an idiot though.... ;) lol!

If Ballard isn't traded next year, then we could trade him and Booth for picks and prospects to free up cap space, and let Higgins and Malhotra walk so we can give rookies roster spots. If that happens we should have plenty of room.

How do you even put your shoes on in the morning..

Let higgins walk... SIGH

Trade booth for a pick... SIGH

Im honestly not sure where to begin.. The people that will walk will be mason raymond and malhotra, that gives us nearly 5 million to work with, which is enough by itself to give burrows and edler raises of 3m for burrows and 2m for edler putting them at 5m and 5.25m respectively.

Ballard is a good defenseman, perhaps he makes a little more than he should but that's what happens when you play on a crapty Florida team and get traded to a good team.

Booth is statistically (in all years, not just last) our #4 forward behind sedins and kesler. He has huge potential and after getting situated in vancouver and recovering from major surgery in his knee he will most assuredly produce a lot of points this year. Especially if he has a healthy kesler to play with.

Booth is arguably the sixth best forward statistically, maybe the seventh with the emergence of Hansen? You put him ahead of Burrows? No chance. And Higgins has arguably better numbers as well. Booth had one good season of 31 goals and 60 points. After that his career high is 40! He also has always put up more goals than assists so he is far from a playmaker. I think if you expect big point totals from Booth you will be disappointed.

I think Booth needs to get off to a good start or he will join Ballard and Raymond as everyone's trade bait.

I hope this is some kind of joke.

-If by "smartness," you mean people have more knowledge, then you are wrong. I don't know even know why anyone would think this.

-If by "smartness," you mean the capacity to retain knowledge, then you are also wrong. Human brain is a lot similar to a muscle, the more you work it, the more efficient it becomes (something the older generations didn't know).

-If by "smartness," you mean better able to analyze, reason etc., then you are also wrong. Same reason as above.

-If by "smartness," you mean better able to survive in the natural environment without depending on others, then you are right. One of the prices we pay for specialization.

If you think you are not more intelligent than someone from the middle ages in all those aspects above except the last one, then you are right.

Are you implying he's become a better player ever since he broke his back?

That kid turns 27 this year. Oh wait..

What is Raymond's undying source of potential and when will he be able to ever reach that? His point production has been heading south (pro-rated) ever since 09-10 season as well.
