I'd become a huge CFL supporter if they went to 4 downs and didn't allow single points for punts.

I could live with the crazy synchronized swimming type motion before snaps, but I hate going to a Lions game and watch change of possession all the time.

Take a sip of beer - oh - the other team has the ball. Go to put my beer down in the cup holder - oh - Lions got the ball back.

It feels/looks so child-ish

I'm fine with lesser skill quality, I watch the Van Giants play and the occasional New York Jets game, I'm fine with it. It's the arcade-style game.

Totally agree. Feels a little gimmicky.

Also, is challenging penalties a thing in the CFL? I remember watching a game a year or two ago and a team was challenging a penalty that was called.

They also have the Flag Football League games on NFL Network now if you are interested.

I rather watch the LFL if I could find it on my tv like @Tre Mac

I watched a game last week and the game felt like it lasted 3 hours in the second half alone with all the challenges and change of possessions.

Raiders cornerback Gareon Conley sues woman who accused him of rape

Oakland Raiders cornerback Gareon Conley had his NFL draft experience turn into a nightmare.

In 2017, Conley became one of the big stories of the draft when he was accused of raping a woman weeks before the draft. The investigation was ongoing during the draft, and Conley — considered one of the top cornerback prospects in the class — fell a bit amid the uncertainty. The Raiders took him 24th overall.

Conley was cleared in the case last July. A grand jury declined charges against him. Conley, according to TMZ, is now suing the woman who accused him, claiming he lost money due to the draft fall and also lost some endorsement opportunities.

Conley gives his side of the story

TMZ cited court documents in its story, and said Conley claims the accuser “aggressively tried to have sex with him during the night in question” but he turned her down, she was embarrassed and then she lied to officials out of spite.

The incident in question happened on April 9 last year in Cleveland. Conley met a woman and she accused him of having sex with her after she told him to stop. No charges were ever brought and Conley was cleared after a long investigation. In court documents for his lawsuit, TMZ said Conley accused her of “malicious criminal prosecution.”

There was no way for Conley to recoup the money he lost after sliding in the draft. Conley signed a $10.467 million, four-year deal with the Raiders. For a comparison, Conley’s Ohio State teammate Marshon Lattimore went 11th overall to the New Orleans Saints and got a four-year deal worth $15.36 million.

Also, TMZ reported that in court documents Conley said he lost out on endorsement deals, including one from Nike.

How is Conley doing in the NFL?

Not only did Conley’s NFL career begin with some controversy, he had a mostly lost rookie season.

Conley had a shin injury that eventually required surgery. He was limited to just two games last season. But this offseason Conley has impressed a new Raiders coaching staff. He is slated to start for Oakland this season.

Conley seems to be moving beyond a tough 2017 on the field, and wants to be paid back for everything he lost off the field.

It's not clear what Conley is seeking in his law suit, but good for him for seeking justice. Her false accusations cost him his reputation and millions in lost income. Not sure how he can ever be made whole.

While I'm not shocked about this as TO has shown to be self centered, I do think the HOF is being petty too.

"His decision to decline the invitation to Canton is unprecedented for any living inductee."

It's because he is broke.  He's got a lot of bastard kids running around and he blew all his money.  Teams usually front the bill or at least help out to pay for these expensive parties and induction ceremonies but TO burned so many bridges that none of his former teams or teammates want to give him a dime.  Pretty sure the only reason he's having his HoF party at his alma mater is because that college is probably fronting the bill.  Mitch Berger was on 1040 last week and this is what he was saying.  He says TO has like 20 kids.

20 kids probably only puts him in the top 10 of the NFL. One of his smaller achievements.

Antonio Cromartie still the GOAT. Wilt Chamberlain can't be touched though.

How many ages and names of the kids can he get right?

Seriously what's with these black athletes with multiple baby mamas? Apparently they only like to raw dog and make no glove love.

Wrap it up or get a vasectomy instead of thinking your pull out game is fire.

Then they end up going broke gambling or paying child support or paying off old friends and family like Trent Richardson.

JJ Watt Quietly Donates $10,000 to Family of Fallen Firefighter Thanks to a Tweet

Jul 12, 2018

While a community mourns a friend, father, and firefighter, this NFL player is being hailed for quietly reaching out to ease their financial struggles.

Last week, firefighter Captain Cory Barr died in a gas explosion when he was responding to a call near his home in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin. In addition to Cory’s wife Abby having to grieve her husband, the explosion also destroyed the tavern that she managed with her husband.

A 15-year veteran of the fire department, Barre was also beloved by his community – so as a means of raising money for their fallen friend, a local church started a GoFundMe page for Barr’s family.

One Twitter user took it upon themselves to send a direct message to JJ Watt, the defensive backend for the Houston Texans football team, in the hopes that the Wisconsin native would sympathize with the cause.

The tweet read: “[JJ Watt] please do what you can for Cory Barr’s family. He was very well known, liked & appreciated in the Sun Prairie community. He was brave and a true hero! Any & all support from one fellow firefighter family to another!”

Not long after, a massive donation of $10,000 was made to the GoFundMe page courtesy of JJ Watt.

He did not publicize his good deed or draw attention to it, but people noticed. The original goal for the campaign was $15,000; within a few hours, it had raised over $40,000. One day later, the page has now raised $121,000.

While we get inundated with XXXXX player beats his GF, or so and so caught with drugs it's nice to see there are still some respectful players in the league.

JJ Watt is pure class.  Hard to find someone that universally liked by fans of all teams in any sport.
