Now to the order of business, we are very honoured with the 153rd selection in RGMG's Fantasy Draft to proudly introduce as the new draftee from St.Paul Minnesota ... Justin "Clean Plays" Faulk Analysis: Justin Faulk posses a huge shot, and is comfortable skating the puck out of his own zone. He has an NHL body, which he uses to his advantage to cover shot angles, and to keep opposing forwards to the outside. The only knock on his game is his tendency to get over aggressive, and take unnecessary penalties. However that can be due to his youthful energy, and he can easily be coached, without special attention required. Carolina: Justin Faulk was one of the defensemen we had pinned out to be in our top 4 pairings. Not only is he known for having the ability to skate with his skate tongue's half hanging off his feet, but he also possess a solid ability to move the puck up the ice, and a immense physical presence on our blue line. Through these five rounds we reviewed numerous game tapes, and we believe that he is a great addition to our team, despite critics saying that we have just about enough veteran experience on the Hurricanes to fill a coffee cup. However when we watched him take down 6'3 John Carlson who weighs in at just under a monstrous 220 lbs, we couldn't wait to draft him to proudly represent the Hurricanes for a second time. The Hurricanes are overjoyed, ecstatic, excited, elated, delighted .... well you get the point to take him in the beginning of the 6th round. Now, actual free-agency (end of this season) will be different. But this is how I want you guys to re-sign your pending players. So I'll use players that have already been drafted as an example. So suppose Philadelphia wants to sign Alexander Edler heres what I want from him. Name: Alexander Edler Position: Defenseman Points this year: 49 points (11g/38a) Player Status: UFA There is the player bio. Now I want a small description of why he wants to retain Edler. While its going to be small (maximum 2 lines) make sure you really put lots of punch into it. Example: Philadelphia is built off its defense, and Edler is the cornerstone to it. After a successful playoff run, we feel we can make it farther next year, and can only do so if we have Edler on our top pairing. See how powerful it was? Described the team, Edlers presence on it, teams success last year, and Edlers role. Now that's it! Now I will give you a ball-park figure that can be negotiable to a certain extent. How do I get the ball-park? I take 5 contracts of similar players, 50 point defenseman, who have signed a contract the last two years with similar production, and get the average and that's my number. So in this case, I'd take Enstrom (5.75), Yandle (5.25), Carle (5.5), Byfuglien (5.2), Suter (7.538) So the ball-park number is 5.8m. Then a little negotiating on the numbers (likely a 200-400k difference MAX) and possible additions of a NTC/NMC, and discussion of terms, then boom. Contract done. (Now in this example it was after the season. If you have a UFA/RFA to sign now, you obviously can't say how your team has done. SheaWeber6 Posted August 23, 2012 Share Posted August 23, 2012 Back from my 2 day trip and wow, great to see the pace get much better and fellow GMs making really good picks. As for the whole UFA thing, it seems pretty good for resigning but in the FA pool I would prefer it to be as long as the GM wants to do it. Dying for the 7th and 8th rounds to come, been dying seeing all those great players going. If any GM wouldn't mind moving their 6th round pick for a fair deal, please PM me, thanks!
