The Phoenix Coyotes are so proud to select the raw, 26 year old talent, who led the entire Swiss A League in scoring, and will be given a chance to play in the NHL and make a name for himself: Damien Brunner !

Posted Image

....Damien is simply a phenom and a highlight reel machine! His skill asset is unbelievable and being the magician he is, he will playing alongside the other magician in Datsyuk with Detroit where he signed a 1 year deal. The last time the Wings signed a promising player from outside of NA was Johan Franzen, and seeing how successful that has been, we see no regrets in picking Brunner, even with the doubts it might cause. Brunner is an electrifying winger and he has it all; can't wait to see what he does and especially if he is given a top 6 role in Detroit.

Should have waited. I was hoping to get him in round 19-20.

A real boom or bust pick.

My bad guys. I'm fine with Dupuis as my pick anyways, I was probably going to pick him.

I went in to work at 5pm to get extra hours, and was oblivious it was my turn when I left. I basically checked every other thread I needed to but this one. :P

What's all the fuss? I chose him cause he is penciled in as a top 6 player on the Wings, and especially since Hudler left. Yea Brunnstrom and others didn't turn out quite well, but I don't know if you guys know, Detroit's scouting kicksass and it's by far the most dominant in the league. ...if he was signed by a team like Minnesota, I wouldn't have picked him this early for sure, as I don't trust Minnesota scouting, but when the leagues top scouting squad says ink this guy, I trust them for sure without doubt. Risky, somewhat, but looking at Detroit's depth chart, he is a sure top sixer on that team and being on a team as good as the Wings, I don't think it'll be hard for him to go on the scoresheet every now and then.

(...I'm sure you would've taken him round 20 lol :picard: ..)

Who cares if no one knows who he is that's not the point

Although I probably would not of picked this player considering what is still out there but he has a valid point about the red wings and there scouting talent

I mean if he does get top 6 minutes on a Detroit team this year he could be a decent pick

Since I love to be the devil's advocate, there's some major difference's I see between these two players. Damien Brunner is a more skill based player who uses speed and open ice to his advantage. Even in the Swiss League Franzen was built like a bull, and played the game more like a power forward, which gave him an advantage when playing in the NHL. Brunnstrom and Brunner are a closer comparison, not only because the first four letters of their name match, but because they both relied on a more open ice game where they could out skate the defensemen rather then being stuck between an NHL players shoulder and the boards. I won't lie and say i know the world about Brunner, because frankly I haven't been keeping up with hockey, however many imports from Europe never really pan out, and that's another reason i believe *()(*()*()*( might not be the life saver these flames fans blindly believe.... but hey when your team can't win or lose properly you have to have faith eh?

I'd be surprised if Brunner even starts the season with the Red Wings given all the depth they have at forward. They have a ton of players in the system that can fill the void left by Hudler and I really wouldn't be banking on a relatively unknown player from the Swiss league stealing that open spot. He's good but who knows how ready he is for the North American game?

Yea, 10th round, and most top 6 players are gone; there are very few left. Its a whole I needed to fill and Brunner does just that. I am sure he wouldn't be available by round 15 as some people are probably aware of him, and I wanted to ensure I got my top 6 forward who is on a solid Detroit team. Top 6 group in Detroit: Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Franzen, Filppula, Brunner.....as you can see, he will be a top 6 player and with his wicked talent of finding the net, I'm sure it won't be that hard for him to make the transition here.

/ I picked him cause I needed a top 6 player, and he filled that best. ...jeez, never knew people were experts and can see through their a magic ball, and talking about experts, NHL experts made a list of top RW and he is in the top 50 in the NHL without even playing a game yet - says something about this guy.
