how about we toss Cobie Smulders on the back of the 100? she's canadian, and much hotter.

I agree on the first part and do believe she is attractive, but the bolded can be contested ;)

.. that this isn't Asia?

Truthfully, I don't see why it matters to have a person at all. Just put the bottle of insulin, and maybe a picture of the LCBO with the prices of booze in Ontario next to the price of booze in New York on the new $100. Soon that's what a beer will cost anyways.

This is Canada. It shouldn't matter WHAT ethnicity they put on the bill.

Aren't Asians Canadian?

Why not find a simpler solution and represent as many of our multi-cultural group on as many of the different bills as possible, so the money reflects the actual diversity found in all aspects of Canadian life?

How is caucasian neutral? Wouldn't First Nations people be more 'neutral'?

Canada is a multicultural country so even if it was a depiction of a Chinese woman I don’t see how people can be justified in complaining. I think having racists (i.e. Mackenzie King) on our money is a more serious issue.

For those who are unaware he’s the former Prime Minister who is on our fifty dollar bill. He turned away the SS St. Louis which was a ship carrying Jewish refugees fleeing from Germany on the cusp of the Second World War. He also was responsible for the Japanese internment camps. It’s okay to have him on our money but not a Chinese woman looking through the microscope?

We wouldn’t have Canada if it wasn’t for immigrants from Scotland, Ireland, France, China, India, etc. Immigrants built this country. I’d say we should take Mackenzie King and have people like Tommy Douglas, Terry Fox, Romeo Dallaire on our currency instead.

THIS ^or if they are going with insulin and medical discoveries why not just put Sir Frederick Banting on the bill.

Well no, Canadians are Canadians.. people from Asia can't freely come to this country. Hence, rules.

This is Canada. It shouldn't matter WHAT ethnicity they put on the bill.

The fact that ethnicity is an issue for anyone in the matter, whether it be those who decide what goes on the bills, or those making a fuss out of it.. makes this a joke. It's a piece of paper that's legal tender, christ. I don't care if it had a picture of George Bush wearing a dress and holding a fleshlight. Way too big a deal about nothing.

i guess i just like my women, all grown up... and not looking like reese witherspoon.

and I'm not being biased in my choice of pictures, I had to search pages of google images for a decent emma pic, then I found a similar cobie pic for accurate comparison (i could post WAY hotter pics of Cobie).

emma just isn't an attractive girl.

I agree with avelanch. She doesn't look Asian to me either. Looks like a case of people looking too hard to find something to complain about.

The "focus" groups need more focus, as far as I'm concerned...

The $100 bill in the photos are the latest bill released to the public. The Bank of Canada has not released images of the rejected bill. So we can't really judge if the woman look too Asian until we see the actual one seen by the focus group.

I can only wonder what other issues will be conjured up from nothing this week. It's like some would rather live on the set of Jerry Springer and find things to whine about.

Of course you do, because a civilized country like most First World ones, such as ours, have progressed through their own hard times and issues, to get to the point in order for you to point to the remaining relatively trivial problems that people want to address as they continue to improve and refine our society.

POPULAR

I say we scrap the whole insulin and scientist on the bill, and just replace it with a Canucks logo.

Then on the front we replace that face with the face of Trevor Linden.

That would instantly become the best $100 bill in the history of mankind.

It doesn't. However, pointing our hyper-sensitivity which ultimately keeps the reflective diversity from being reflected through our national institutions is something we can complain about in order to refine our society in order to better reflect the accomplishments and participation of the diverse population that makes up Canada.

Even if she was supposed to be Asian, how is that even supposed to offend anyone? Most surprising part of this is that the BoC is actually going to change it because of some whiny bitches.

I believe your initial comment was in response to a post that pointed to the 'triviality' of the matter.

My response to you was in accordance to your response, in that it's worth discussing as we as members of this society work to refine our society and the way we look at ourselves and the way we are reflected back to ourselves.

We do have bigger issues in this country to address and resolve, but that doesn't mean we're incapable of walking and chewing gum either.

Or why don't we print out bills with just the color and the denomination on it?

No more scenes of hockey, women, or frozen rivers - there; problem solved.
