Canucksbiggestfan
I wanna hold onto the 1st and we should get something else than just Stafford for Luongo. In mine we get rid of the log jam of wingers we have/are forming, Kassian gets a spot and we dont have Raymond, then we can trade Luongo to Florida to get some other nice pieces, maybe a center or just prospects/picks or whatever. Pears
We get gypped. Buffalo wins by a landslide.
Smashian Kassian
We give up a 2014 1st Round Pick, but we still hold on to our 2013 1st Rounder and now we also add on a 2013 3rd Rounder. I do agree we have a lot of wingers who fill certain spots, Raymond being the most notable.
Canucksbiggestfan
I would still rather hold onto firsts, we have players to fill the spots Higgins and Raymond leave behind and if we keep the 1st we can add a good prospect later on, which is something we need to do. Canucksbiggestfan
What does everyone think of the Fla-Tor deal? Good deal for both sides?
Jägermeister
Nah I would say Stafford > Versteeg for sure.
Smashian Kassian
We could follow the Detroit Model? Yes their scouts are amazing, but maybe we could upgrade our scouts or add more good scouts.
Smashian Kassian
Meh, I'll settle on equal. They still win this deal by a landslide.
Canucksbiggestfan
They do but Stafford is still better, Brings everything versteeg does but can score more and is bigger,
Canucksbiggestfan
It's better just to trade Higgins and Raymond than to bank on getting lucky in the late rounds.
Smashian Kassian
Raymond yes, but Higgins is a great role player and only has 1 year left (he also was amazing in our long playoff run). I would trade 5 1st Round Picks, if it meant that we would win a cup. Maybe he could be the missing piece.
Canucksbiggestfan
No hes a little overrated in this market, & if trading him means getting Stafford I would do it anyday.
Smashian Kassian
He might be a little overrated, but you can't deny that he has contributed at key times.
Canucksbiggestfan
Yeah he does for sure, I like him but if trading him means getting Stafford without giving up much in the future (prospects and 1sts) I'm all for it.
MagicMunkle
Buffalo wins this deal, Florida comes second, we lose... what about this (more evened out): Canucks; Drew Stafford FLA 2nd Rounder Sabres: Kris Versteeg Bill Sweatt Panthers: Roberto Luongo That is a bit more even, but I do like your idea in the OP
Smashian Kassian
If our window to win a cup is now, then I would rather give up a couple of pieces of the future like a B prospect and a low 1st Rounder.
Canucksbiggestfan
We are going to have a log jam of wingers so we would have to trade one anyways and we are trading Higgins to get an upgrade so why wouldn't we do it? And I would rather not end up like Calgary.
elvis15
Booth and Stafford are pretty different from each other. Booth is a Power Forward who drives to the net and crashes the net. Stafford is more of a sniper who can be capable of making plays and can also score. The thing is that Kesler will be out of the line up for the first two months and that is when we will need a guy like Stafford, Stafford can also be put up on the Sedin line too. Smashian Kassian
I'm not saying they're exactly the same, but is Stafford significantly different enough in style of play to make it worthwhile dealing for him when we have Booth on the other wing and Kesler in the center already shooting plenty for everyone? Is Stafford significantly different in style to be a better fit from anyone else we can play there, like Higgins or Kassian? Would he be worth the difference in cap hit we'd take on and the assets we'd lose to get him? That's my take on it, not that I don't like Stafford, just that we're moving for similar players without regard for line chemistry. If we were still running with the helicopter line of Raymond and Samuelsson, I could see wanting to upgrade there for sure. As far as the Fla/Tor deal, I don't see why Florida would want Lombardi. They aren't going to get a lot back for Theodore and they'd need to line up a replacement if the first deal doesn't happen at the same time, but they have centers and left wingers better than him. If anything, they'd want a right winger to replace Versteeg going by the first deal.
Canucksbiggestfan
He's not that similar to Booth, he's probably more similar to Doan than Booth (not that they are alot similar) I think it would be worth while if we don't get Doan or anyone from FLA.
