In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Gaudreau has one NHL goal whereas all your "prized" prospects have none.

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

A lot of rumours making me worry, apparently he's pricing himself out of canucks range.

good news mg needs to get eddy locked down now/ best we can hope for is a discount for 6 mill over 6 years $36 million dollar contract. no way edler signs for less than 5 mill we can all forget that now.

if edler gets to free agency i gurantee some stupid desperate gm will make some insane offer proably near 7Mill a year, saying that cuz edler is the best defencemen available thats eligable for the next free agency

Detroit.

They wanted to draft him in the 1st place.

Kassian.... Taylor Pyatt 3.0

Lies. He's more of a Steve Bernier. Hopefully his talent level goes up so he can become like a Taylor Pyatt.

I will be so happy if it's something like a 6yr/$30M contract

I think they were happy with Franzen ;)

Yeah, but no one else was going to draft a 24-year old Franzen that early so they would've landed both in that draft had we not preempted that move.

Detroit has their own scouting list (not unlike any other team) and guess who they had ranked highest after Edler?

Speaking of Edler, I saw him downtown today shopping. Stopped by and yelled "Sign with us for life!" and he smiled

I would give him a 10 year 45mill deal. I dont care what people think about this deal but potentially there could be a chance the cba will change the max year to something low

Awesome! Edler!

I can't remember Gillis negotiating with any player a yr before their contract expires. Does anyone remember any examples?
Now we're hearing about Burrows and Edler, makes me wonder what's up? Maybe he's trying to figure out a long term plan - like how much cap space he'll have for next few yrs and how that'll play into a goalie trade?

Ironically, I recall that he signed Edler to his current contract in the summer before his ELC expired.

Trade Bieksa? Not even if it was a one for one deal for a guy like Ovechkin. And I am being serious. Linden53

Yes Edler is good but his inconsistencies and poor playoff play last season will drag his cap hit down considerably.

4 to 5 million per for 4 years sounds good. 5.5M max, but a much shorter contract in that case.

You're right, Edler was re-up'd in Oct the yr before he became an RFA. Kes was re-up'd in March.

When you have something that Detroit wants, you keep it.

Edler is someone that Detroit would absolutely love to have, so I say we sign him long term.

All this talk of $5m, $6m or $7m is nonsense. Remember when Jason Garrison was getting $6.5m on July 1st, yet signed for $2m less? Edler is a sensible guy, he knows that Hamhuis and Bieksa take the tough minutes so he looks better against easier forwards - he's signing for that magic $4.6m. I'd say 5/6 years length.

If Edler left on a $7m deal to ANYWHERE, there'd be huge pressure on him to:

- play against top lines
- put up 60pts
- be a leader

I dont think he's capable of doing those things. Love the guy though :)

I think a sedin deal would be fitting. Maybe he wants more with the cap where it is. I'd rather overpay if it means no NTC. As much as gillis
Gets praised for making players sign discounts all those contracts come with a ntc and we have little to no liquid assets at this point aside from our younger players.

I always forget that the NHL video games have a direct correlation to real life. I created myself in that game. Im a 99 overall. Forget Shane Doan, Gillis should be signing me for big bucks.

Question is who creates themselves on NHL videoggame? And to boot make themselves a 99?

okay now heres the question "will mg and edler be able to make a deal with him being capped out at 4.6m?"

i think he will but i have no problem going 5.5m for edler and still think i am getting a discount...he would get 6.5m-7.5m offers on the open market

6yrs/27.6m

4.6m per (exactly the same deal as garrison)

Signing both Edler and Burrows before the new CBA is kinda risky. And not on the players' side. However, a GM doesn't want to let these guys go for nothing either.

The Ducks have Getzlaf and Perry coming up. You'd think they'd be extended already, but maybe it's in the works like our guys.

Edler has far too many holes in his game and is a way too soft for my liking i would prefer we trade him.

What i have seen in the past is when the going gets playoff tough guys like Edler crumble and unfortunately thats all i see from Edler.

Locking Edler up for 5 years at 5-6 would be a mistake we would regret.

They did the same with Luongo the summer before he was set to become a free agent, and it took much longer than expected, but when Lu set a deadline of sept 13th or he was playing out his final year they came to a deal.(from tsn- Luongo had originally set a deadline of Sept. 13 to complete the deal, after which time he did not want the mid-season distraction of negotiating a new contract.)

I feel like Edler won't sign for a home town discount. He's not a B.C. native, he isn't a Burrows and he isn't a Sedin ( well close) and he sure ain't a Kesler ( Though it seemed after we signed this contract that every other GM went insane with their money). I'm sure he is asking for 7mil a season while Gillis is offering 4.8 mil. It'll probably get shortened down for 6.5 mil for 5 years which is too much for someone soooooooo shaky vs. L.A. last year.

:picard: Do you not know who Edler is?? If you want him traded just because of one bad playoffs, then you do not know very much about hockey.

Way too soft? Are you freaking kidding? Edler is our most PHYSICAL defenseman behind Bieksa.

Seriously, think before you post.
