-AJ-
I'd say he should be in the Ring of Honour for sure. Not jersey retirement because he lacked longevity with the team, but Ring of Honour seems fitting.
Vancity_77
Honestly, I don't see Luongo's number actually being retired by the Canucks, however I feel like you could make a case that it could be. He played 6 season with us, which is more than some who have had their numbers retired by other teams, and was arguably one of the best goalies in the league during that time frame. He holds the vast majority of our goaltending records, for both season and career numbers. He was our Captain for 2 years (whether it was a good decision is up for debate), becoming the first goaltender to be given the "C" in 60 years. He played in 3 All-Star games, won the Molson Cup for the Canucks 4 times, was our MVP 2 times, won a Jennings, had a Pearson and Hart nomination, and had 3 Vezina nominations. His list of accomplishments is certainly worthy of having the idea of having his number being hung up being discussed. So as it stand now, if we were to trade Lu this season, would you think we should retire his number once he retires?

Tragoedia
lol at everyone saying that fans are running luongo out of town...you think management gives a crap about what the fans want? no, because we would've gotten shea weber and zach parise by now. oh and what about that part where luongo himself said that would welcome a trade to another team
Riviera82
1) His wife doesnt wants to move here. 2) McLean had more bad playoffs years than Luongo.
Riviera82
Luongo got us 2 presidents trophies and countless North West Division Banners!! What else does the guy have to do to get his number retired?
Schnieds
So management didn't try to make our team better just because they don't care about the fans? Everything they do is to try and make the team better You may disagree with the plan, but to assume that they aren't making the team better because they are lazy is just flat out ridiculous. As numerous other people understand, there was no way we were getting either of those players. This is not NHL 12, where you just offer a player a contract and he signs with your team for the agreed amount, and ignores the other 29 teams who would offer the same thing. Parise only wanted to go to Minnesota. So there was no way we could get him on our team, other than maybe overpaying him, and destroying our salary structure within the cap. You think Luongo's overpaid? Aside from that stupid plan, (which still doesn't guarantee him coming here), there was no way with Parise. Webere was a different story, in that whatever contract he would possibly sign, Nashville had the opportunity to match. Which they did. Did Philadelphia get Weber after all the money they offered him? No. He signed the contract, and Nashville matched. So in short, there was no way to get those two players, and you are being selfish for assuming that it is only because management didn't try. Riviera82
What did he do for this team that Luongo didn't? Luongo has also broken his win and shutout records in about 130 less games played
Riviera82
I'd argue that Luongo is going to make it 2 Hall of Famers...
foozer
Theres no way lou gets his number retired not so much for his short stay or lack of consistency, but more because of his awkward exit from the team which will only get worse as it drags on. Strawberries
Kirk McLean is more deserving of the retirement than Luongo ever will be.

Moonshinefe
Retire the #1? That's like... what half the goalies in the NHL use. That'd be a bad idea, heh.
biznasty
He falls into this arguement: Is it the Hall of Fame or the Hall of Really Good? This franchise should not be in a rush to honour players for the sake of having a few more names in the rafters. The Lions only have 8 guys with honoured numbers and only two of them played in the last 25 years....and the next one will be Simon....but after that, no one close on the horizon. The next players that the Canucks should honour to whatever degree are the Sedins and that's it. Everyone else, forget it.
Onions
Not a chance IMO Maybe if he played out his career here. But he's only been here for 6 years and he's done good things for us but not great things. No Vezinas and no Stanley Cup(s). Perhaps the ROH. But mostly he'll just go down as another great player who played for us but who couldn't get us the one thing we want so bad. Say hypothetically that the Sedins retire here w/o having won a Cup. I think they would still deserve jersey retirements because they did great things - Hart, Art Ross, Lindsay winners - and great things in the community also.
