Fistric was routinely a healthy scratch in Dallas and Edmonton, is currently averaging 15 minutes/game in Anaheim while playing half the games (34/67). He missed 6 games to injury, was a healthy scratch in the other 27 games. Am I undervaluing him by calling him a 3rd pair dman? If anything, that's overvalued.

Franson is #4 in ES TOI/G in Toronto by a slim margin, gets the most PP time of any dman. He was #7 in ES TOI/G last year. Toronto almost let him go to Sweden because they didn't feel he was good enough defensively. So he's a #4/#5 and PP specialist on a team with a mediocre backend.

Gallagher has basically spent all of his time on the 2nd or 3rd line in Montreal and is averaging 16 minutes/game alongside a couple others (which is upper-level 3rd line, lower-level 2nd line minutes). He's on pace for 44 points in 82 games, which is upper-level 3rd line, lower-level 2nd line production. My bad, he's a 2nd/3rd line tweener.

So please elaborate on who I'm undervaluing. Brule who retired in his 20s? Bouma or Wright who are spare parts on non-playoff teams? Blum, who couldn't even crack the Wild's blueline and has cleared waivers several times this season? Machacek who hasn't played in the NHL for the last 2 years? The guys who've never played a game in the NHL?

No surprise that you couldn't make even the slightest attempt at presenting an argument. Congrats on your lazy attack post.

go cheer for the royals .. My time is too precious to be riled up by this post ..

I love that these guys are actually in the playoffs ... nobody saw that coming ... I said it before .. one of the fastest and most competent rebuilds I have ever witnessed .. why aren't the nucks looking at a guy like bonner to be part go their management ??

next year the gmen are gonna be scary .. and the year after that ?? I'm betting they go to the memorial cup .. can't wait to see benson at 17 !!

I do cheer for the Royals and will do so tonight. I also used to go to a lot of Giants games when I was living in Burnaby 1/3 of the time from 2006-2010. Sorry, I didn't know I wasn't allowed to cheer for both teams or have an opinion, backed up by stats, on who the Canucks, my favourite NHL team, should draft. My bad ...

Connauton joined the Giants after he was drafted (we drafted him out of Western Michigan).

Outside of Gallagher, Kane, and Lucic, the Giants haven't really produced many decent NHLers over the past decade. Franson and Fistric were almost out of the NHL altogether not too long ago.

2004:

Fistric - 3rd pair dman

Grant - Nothing

2005:

Brule - Bust

Franson - 3rd pair dman

2006:

Lucic - Top 6 forward

2007:

Blum - Nothing

Repik - Nothing

Machacek - Nothing

Sexsmith - Nothing

2008:

Bouma - Nothing

Wright - Nothing

Regner - Nothing

2009:

Kane - Top 6 forward

2010:

Cunningham - Nothing yet

Gallagher - 3rd line forward

2011:

Musil - Nothing yet

Tvrdon - Nothing yet

2012:

Martinook - Nothing yet

Kulak - Nothing yet

2013:

Geertsen - Nothing yet

Houck - Nothing yet

I'd say Bouma has established himself as a 4th liner at least, but yeah I agree.

It kind of sucks seeing some of these guys dominate junior, then just fizzle out in the pros. I had really high hopes for Repik, Blum, and Machacek, but none turned out (although Machecek was good in his limited NHL time).

Brendan Leipsic gets an unsportsmanlike penalty for drinking from Payton Lee's water bottle.

Whaaaaaat he was thirsty!? *wink*

I am personally embarrassed about the vandalization though... I appologize on behalf of my city.

Im glad it wasnt winterhawks fans though.

Also, You guys have a ton to be proud of! That first game had me seriously scared!

Then in a few years, my team wont be as good and yours will be awesome!

Good luck tonight guys! im looking forward to a good game!

While the total ice-time says differently, Franson is essentially the Leafs' #2 defensemen, behind Phaneuf. Both players are the only two defensemen on the team who logs big minutes on both the powerplay and penalty kill.

As for Gallagher, he is rarely used on the PK, because of the depth of penalty killers they have on the team (that will hamper his ice-time), or else he'd be averaging upwards to 18 minutes a night. You also have to factor in that this is only his second year in the league. So, whose to say, that he's nothing more than a 2nd line tweener...? He's tied for 2nd in goals with 18, and 4th amongst forwards in points.

I didn't say they can't be more, just saying that's what they are now (IMO, of course).

Here's hoping the Giants get back in this series tonight with a win.

Portland scored three late goals in the first period as the Giants trail the Winterhawks 3-0 through 20 minutes.

Three goals in 56 seconds!

The end of the road tonight,,but a definite improvement on last season and hope for big things next year.

i dont understand why there is so little interest in the giants on this forum ?? we call ourselves a hockey town .. but over and over again we prove we are just a canucks town .. its embarrassing ..

Totally agree, I check this thread all the time..dont bother posting most times..its like talking to your self..I see more action on the Kelowna and Victoria threads?

I guess it shows there are fans from all over...not just Vancouver.

Exactly. Don Hay is going to be a hard act to follow. I'm going to miss him, because how great he was with his players. Even if he had a crappy roster, the team was always trying, and he got the most of out his guys.

I really don't get why people don't follow the Giants, because the WHL you're seeing the stars of the future. The games are affordable. Maybe true hockey fans follow junior, the rest are just NHL fans.

i dont think don left .. i think the giants decided to part ways with him .. He is a very demanding coach and I think that he sucked all of the fun out of the game for those kids in the last few years .. i wish him well but I think the gmen will be better for the change ..
