Giants Move Musil to Edmonton to Bolster Their Future

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Vancouver Giants made a bold move today by trading 19 year-old Edmonton Oilers draft pick and Delta native David Musil to the Edmonton Oil Kings in exchange for 17 year-old defensive prospect Mason Geertsen and a 1st-round draft pick in 2013.

Here’s what Vancouver General Manager Scott Bonner had to say on this decision: “Moving David was a hard thing to do, however with the current stage in our system it was important to acquire a solid 17 year old prospect as well as a 1st-round pick to rebuild the program.”

Musil was into his 4th full season with the Giants, collecting 92 points in 206 games, including 8 points in 14 games this season.

Geertsen, meanwhile, who’s from Rocky Rapids, Alberta and stands 6’4, 203lbs, is now in his second full season with the Oil Kings. He has collected 7 assists and 106 penalty minutes in 52 games so far, including 4 assists in 15 games this season. Geertsen is expected to be in the lineup for the Giants tomorrow night when they visit the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Tvrdon is done for the season :(

http://vancouvergian...-for-the-season

The Vancouver Giants announce today that left winger Marek Tvrdon has undergone a medical procedure earlier this week and will be out for the remainder of the 2012/13 WHL season.

“Marek had a small blockage isolated to a single vein in his left shoulder,” says Giants’ General Manager & Executive VP, Scott Bonner. “It was completely and rapidly dissolved and he is doing very well. Marek is under the excellent care of numerous specialists and he is recovering quickly. He will not be returning this season but he is expected to have a full recovery and future career as a hockey player. Right now our priority is Marek's health and well-being and we would like to respect his and his family's privacy.”

Tvrdon, a 4th round pick of the Detroit Red Wings (2011), is currently the Giants’ leading scorer, with 8 goals and 14 assists in 18 games.
