I'm not sure if it's true, but if it is, then I immediately will get a Samsung phone!

Samsung Pays Apple $1 Billion Sending 30 Trucks Full of 5 Cents Coins

PaperBlog - This morning more than 30 trucks filled up with coins of 5 cents arrived at Apple’s headquarters in California. Initially, the security company that protects the facility said it was diverted to the wrong place, but minutes later, Tim Cook (Apple CEO) received a call from Samsung CEO explaining that they will pay $1 billion dollars for the fine recently ruled against the South Korean company in this way.

I think this was debunked since Samsung is appealing the decision and wouldn't have given up the money yet. Plus, some people with lots of time did some weight and volume calculations and 30 trucks isn't enough. =P

Would be hilarious if Samsung did something like this though.

Lost a 100 dollar bet once and paid in nickels, only because he kept rubbing it in.

i would have paid in rolls of pennies, and opened every single one in front of him (or put them in a fireproof container, and lit the paper wrappers on fire. nothing worse than a sore winner.

Afraid that is still not possible.

$1B= 20 billion nickels, or 2x1010 nickels.

A US nickel weights 5 g, which puts the total weight at 108kg, or 105 metric tons, which takes 276 of the largest dump trucks in the world (e.g. a Caterpillar 797F which carries a max load of about 363 tons).

Someone knows his math.

Or is good at copy/pasting from someone else who does.

At best it would have been a symbolic gesture to show up with a few trucks of coins, but Samsung isn't that stupid to pay out $1B in nickels.

The Mint expects demand for nickels in commerce to increase from 840 million needed in Fiscal Year 2011 to 1.08 billion in 2015

from http://en.wikipedia....ted_States_coin)

I seriously doubt there is even 20 billion nickels in circulation in the US

Why is it hard to believe that I actually did the math myself? Googling for information took longer than the calculation

I found a table for US mint production, and the production is between 1-2B per year. Since coins are supposed to have a lifetime of 25 years, that gives an estimation of 25 - 50 billion nickels in circulation.

Do a little digging and you will realize you have all been duped. What the Internet says MUST be true is CDC's ideology.

The key difference is that Sopel can fill in for Seabrook and Campbell just fine. Bieksa, he is garbage so in that sense he is like the worst defenseman in the league.

When Cody (Hodgson) gets older, he might be better than Datsyuk.

Let's not push this guy (Kassian). He's still immature, and if he fails on the 2nd line it's because he isn't ready. Some guys really need years to develop, it's how well and how fast players adapt to the game. In my opinion, I'd rather have Horvat getting 2nd line minutes. He will start off on the 3rd line next season but I see him making the transition, being a great compliment to whoever plays his wings.

At this point, I don't see Kassian fitting in to any role other than a 3rd. If players like Kassian start getting 2nd line minutes then we just stay inconsistent as a team.

The idiocy on CDC....

Lol this would be funny if it was true but in actuality the monetary award has only been recommended by the jury at this point and is not due until the judge determines the actual figure to be given to Apple. Then there is the appeal process which I am sure Samsung lawyers can tie up in courts for years to the point that if they ever do have to pay money to Apple it won't be today.

This story isn't true.

As for the ruling, it's a joke...of course the tablets look alike, it's a general design that has been around for decades and Apple most certainly did not invent it:

Palm was bought by HP, and HP already has been sued by Apple before, albeit I don't think in this market.

But this follows Apple's trend of trying to compete with Android by suing cell phone manufacturers that use it.. HTC, Nokia, now Samsung.

I vividly recall "portable multiple function device" and putting it to your ear and in your pocket as illustrative demonstrations of their "patents".

Who can defend this type of crap as creative?
