Samsung pays Apple one billion in coins

Lol this would be funny if it was true but in actuality the monetary award has only been recommended by the jury at this point and is not due until the judge determines the actual figure to be given to Apple. Then there is the appeal process which I am sure Samsung lawyers can tie up in courts for years to the point that if they ever do have to pay money to Apple it won't be today.

This story isn't true.

As for the ruling, it's a joke...of course the tablets look alike, it's a general design that has been around for decades and Apple most certainly did not invent it:

ZOMG!!! The rectangular screen has little icons on it, and when you touch them it opens the programs!!!! Where is Palm in all of this?

Palm was bought by HP, and HP already has been sued by Apple before, albeit I don't think in this market.

But this follows Apple's trend of trying to compete with Android by suing cell phone manufacturers that use it.. HTC, Nokia, now Samsung.

I vividly recall "portable multiple function device" and putting it to your ear and in your pocket as illustrative demonstrations of their "patents".

Who can defend this type of crap as creative?

Change as legal tender and the law.

In Canada as outlined in the Currency Act not including purchases using loonies or toonies the max is $10 in coins. For loonies its $25 and Toonies its $40.

In the USA you can use any denomination of coins to pay government agencies but private companies.persons or businesses are free to develop their own policies as to how and when to accept any denominations of cash except where there is a state law in place which says otherwise.

So Apple would be free to refuse the nickels as payment.
