Turris, 23, recently completed his third full season in the National Hockey League and played 49 of his 55 regular season contests in 2011-12 as a member of the Senators. He was originally acquired by Ottawa from the Phoenix Coyotes on Dec. 17, 2011, in exchange for defenceman David Rundblad and a second-round draft pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. A native of Burnaby, B.C., Turris concluded the 2011-12 campaign having established new career highs in goals (12), assists (17), points (29) and penalty minutes (27). He recorded three points (one goal, two assists) and two penalty minutes while skating in each of Ottawa’s seven post-season contests against the New York Rangers. In 186 career NHL contests with Phoenix and Ottawa, he has recorded 75 points (31 goals, 44 assists) and 70 penalty minutes. On April 18, Turris became the 13th player in franchise history to record a playoff overtime-winning goal, when he helped lift the Senators to a 3-2 win over the Rangers at Scotiabank Place in Game 4 of their Eastern Conference quarter-final series. Turris was Phoenix’s first-round pick (third overall) in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Hank Moody
Anyone else think that contract is just way too big of a risk for someone who hasn't proven much yet?

Hobbes!!!
Think its silly that so many contracts are being based on 'potential' like this.

CanucksFanMike
It is good for the Sens to get him locked up depending on what the cap hit is.... 5 yrs is a little risky though if he busts.
TOMapleLaughs
Seems insane a term to me. But whatever. Cap hit alright.
Jägermeister
Guy has not proven he can be a solid top 6 player yet. Huge risk giving him that kind of contract.
canucks.brad
he had 29 points in 49 games while adjusting to a new team and playing in an Canadian market. that would put him on pace for roughly 48 points in 82 games. I think he will only improve from here on out. 5 years maybe a bit long but I think he still has a lot to offer

Versace
Max I would give him is 3 years, but I guess its kind of a high risk high reward thing.
Lockhart
I can see him putting up 60-65 points this year if the season starts on time.
D-Money
Kid finished the season as a 22 year-old. Hasn't even played 200 games. My money is on him being slightly overpaid next season, and a bargain for the rest of the contract.
wtpasc
good for him, and hopefully this works out well for my Sens
Lonny_Bohonos_14
3.5 is fair for what he brings to the table right now. The term is a bit long, but as long as his skill doesn't regress, then this should work out to be a good deal for the Sens.
Millerdraft
$3.5m under a $70m cap is peanuts for a 50pt 2nd line center in today's NHL. I can't see this kid being anything less than a perennial 20g 50pt guy much like Brendan Morrison. Incidentally, wasn't B-Mo earning a $3.5m cap hit under a $39m cap in '05-'06?
