With no disrespect to Henrik Sedin as he is a wonderful and leading captain I just have my own proposal and fresh idea to how Kesler being captain could have turned this team to a Cup in 2011, and even a potential Cup for next season (2012/13)

First of all, deciding between the Twins and then choosing one of them with obviously having Daniel know that his brother is and was chosen over him because they thought Henrik would be a better candidate for captain than him is kind of a slap in the face. Obviously, I am absolutely sure that Daniel is fine, but you know what I mean.

Secondly, that run of Kesler leading this team and really trying to push the Canucks into becoming more motivated to play harder and better as a result of Kesler leading by example was a huge example to prove that Kesler has the potential. Plus, if Kesler was chosen captain, then the Sedins can be on the same page as both of them were to be still A's and I honestly think that it would motivate Kesler a lot more than Henrik if he were to be chosen captain it would push this team in a different and more motivated direction.

Label me insane, but it could have worked...you guys have any thoughts?

We'd have to change the team name in to the Vancouver Divers.

The C is just a letter on a jersey, It really doesn't matter in the locker room who has it. Kesler doesn't need the "C" to be a leader on the ice.

Maybe in the future. It would look stupid changing Captains every 2 years or so.

Yeah, while we're bludgeoning horse corpses, we may as well talk about trading Luongo, Rogers Arena atmosphere (intro song, ticket prices, etc.), the team's logo/jerseys, and last but not least - Shane Doan.

Once I read the title of this thread I was wondering how long it would take for this to be brought up. Wow first reply! One down year and he's already CDC's new whipping boy. Another 40 goal year and you guys won't care if falls down faster than a soccer player in the 18 yard box

Yeah, just go strip the C off one the most humble and best hockey players in the NHL today, a guy who does so much for the community, a guy who has been on the team his whole career and grown here and all will go off without a question and hand it over to Kesler who has a bad rep around the league and is a lot younger then Henrik....

Gee I wonder how big of an insult that is to Hank and how he would feel...

First off, I doubt it would be a slap in the face to Daniel. Henrik did win the Hart and Art Ross that year. And they wouldn't have picked him if they thought he wouldn't be able to get the team going. Maybe he's more vocal than Daniel, who knows?

Secondly, it's just a letter anyway, Henrik and Kesler are both capable of motivating the team, Kesler doesn't need the "C" to lead.

It feels more appropriate for Henrik to be captain after everything he's done. Besides, we went to the finals in the first year of naming him captain... can't argue with that. Henrik is by far the better choice in my opinion.

The C is just a letter. There is very little chance that giving it to anyone else would make much of an impact. Hockey's a team sport with group leadership. People overanalyze the C too much, like it's some mystical ingredient to winning the Cup.

I believe Daniel admitted Henrik was the more vocal of the two, so you're right. :)

It wouldn't work since there's already the LA Divers.

Just 'cause he had one year down doesn't change the fact he's still a diver.

Another 40 goal year and if he still dives I'll still call him a diver. He doesn't just do it too much, he does it pretty poorly, atleast make it believable, that's why we mock him, it's so fake, and disgraceful.

OMG THAT'D BE 1337.

But den like, we'd have to be named the Vancouver it's all your faults

In all seriousness though,
I don't think the C makes any difference between who can or is the leader in the locker room or on the bench

Gonna be a sad moment when Bobby Lu puts on a different jersey.

I'm a huge homer... but Kesler's dives are just embarrassing.

They're so blatantly obvious and overly dramatic.

It doesn't even gets us power-plays, which make it pointless.

So yeah, he either needs to stop diving or he needs to tone it down.

I agree that Kesler has a lot of the necessary qualities to be a captain, but this is neither the time nor the place to start creating leadership issues where there aren't any. More important than who has what letter, I'd like to see Kesler lead the team through the Playoffs like we saw during that Nashville series.

Kesler doesn't need a 'C' or even an 'A' to look good hoisting the Conn Smythe.

What if my aunt had a penis?

She'd be my uncle.

Henrik is a great captain and he's more than earned the C. Changing the 'C' isn't going to automatically win us the cup.

So in the interest of turning this thread into something worth discussing, who do you guys think will be the next captain, after Henrik and Daniel leave? I think a lot of people had penciled Hodgson into that role, but things have obviously changed. I think the obvious candidates from the current roster would be Kesler and Hamhuis, but they'll also be getting up there in age by the time the Sedins are on their way out, so management might want to go with a younger, more long-term captain. Perhaps either Schroeder or Tanev, assuming they're still with us?

It's so hard to predict. Assuming the twins are gone in 6-7 years, I'll say that a 32 year-old Edler might fill the void. Preferably, I'd like our next captain to be an emerging 22-24 year-old Canadian with a terrible thirst for blood and silver.

I don't think Kesler is mature enough to be a Captain, atleast not yet. The guy we got right is just fine.
