Edmonton Oilers@NHL_Oilers
GM Steve Tambellini announces the #Oilers have agreed to terms with Jordan Eberle on a 6-year $36 million contract extension

Edmonton Oilers@NHL_Oilers
"I'm happy for the organization and I'm proud of Jordan, because he deserves it." - GM Tambellini on Eberle's extension

So they're saying he's worth the same as Hall, which is debatable. Only one year difference between the deals but same AAV of $6M per year.

The Edmonton Oilers have agreed to terms with forward Jordan Eberle on a six-year, $36 million contract extension.
The 22-year-old scored 34 goals and added 42 assists in 78 games for the Oilers last season.
In 147 career games with the Oilers, the Regina, Saskatchewan native has 52 goals and 119 total points.
Eberle was originally drafted by Edmonton in the first round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.

Solid signing.

Now the OIlers have as much money invested in their forwards as we do. This will surely be a great deal for them in the near future.

Thought Eberle would get a tad more but a great signing nonetheless.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

Wow. Even better signing for Edmonton. I was expecting Eberle to get more per year than Hall. @ 6million per year for each of them that is solid.

Interesting responses. I like Eberle, and Hall has concerns over injury, but I think at total potential Hall is better than Eberle. I would have assumed Eberle would have made slightly less in his deal, but perhaps that would have been reflected if the term was the same (slightly lower cap hit as a result of longer term).

What happens when Yakupov and The Nuge need new contracts? Are they honestly gonna pay 24m+ For 4 Players? Don't forget about Schultz and the other young guns on that team...

I really like the way Edmonton has built their team from the draft...but I see a Chicago-esque collapse in their future.

Not if they keep signing them to these long term contract that end up looking extremely reasonable after they meet there full potential , The thing with the blackhawks was they had a ton of depth that all came up for new contracts at the same time while having to give them all current market value and it did not help that Tallon screwed up on a couple RFA contracts having to pay more then he was going to need to retain the players

Good signing, but stupid that Hall will be getting the same $ as Eberle, on the same too as well...Hall's a spoiled brat who hasn't proved anything....on the other hand, Eberle is just a beast.

The only way to get 1 or 2 solid defenders is to give up one of their young assets. Or draft picks, which I doubt they will do.

I think it's a good idea, or at least trade one of Yakupov or Eberle for a solid Dman. They are all going to be PPG players, lock up Gagner as the second line center and fill in the bottom two lines with decent players.

There's a few solid D men still on the UFA block. Maybe they could grab a couple.

He's a fast 30 goal scorer at age 20, I think he deserves it.

I do like them trying to set a bar like the Canucks with their salaries. Sets a good bar for nail and nuge. If the end up signing at 6 each and both end up performing as expected, having those 4 locked up at 24m isn't too bad at all.

Exactly. Hall is two years younger than Eberle and it's splitting hairs when deciding who is better. He will likely end up being the better player and captain of the Oilers. Keep in mind that while Eberle was winning CHL player of the year two years after being drafted, Hall was in the NHL and scoring at a 45 goal pace from November until his season ended.

As for Chicago. They have Toews(top 5 center), Kane(top 20 winger), Hossa(one of the best 2 way forwards), Keith/Seabrook(top 5 defensive pairing) and Sharp locked up long term. They still have respectable depth players too. They're basically a half decent goalie away from being a cup contender. They also have 10M in cap space to play with.

Your talking all star defenceman , Im thinking more along linea of a UFA or two next summer or trading Hemsky for one now .

If Shultz turns into a 40-50 point PP quarterback and they get another one or maybe two guys who are along the quality of a 3rd or 4th dman ( Llke Garrison is )then i think they got a real contender

Considering the Canucks top 4 forward salaries equal 21.4 mil, I think 24 million for 4 young star players who will likely put up a point per game is pretty good...

You also need to keep in mind that the Sedins definitely took discounts. They could be making 15M between the two alone and no one would think twice about it.
