Listen to the tales and romanticize,

How we'd follow the path of the hero.

Boast about the day when the rivers overrun.

How we rise to the height of our halo.

Listen to the tales as we all rationalize

Our way into the arms of the savior,

Feigning all the trials and the tribulations;

None of us have actually been there.

Not like you.

Ignorant siblings in the congregation

Gather around spewing sympathy,

Spare me.

None of them can even hold a candle up to you.

Blinded by choice, these hypocrites won't see.

But, enough about the collective Judas.

Who could deny you were the one who

Illuminated your little piece of the divine?

And this little light of mine, a gift you passed on to me;

I'm gonna let it shine to guide you safely on your way,

Your way home ...

Oh, what are they going to do when the lights go down

Without you to guide them all to Zion?

What are they going to do when the rivers overrun

Other than tremble incessantly?

High is the way, but all eyes are upon the ground.

You were the light and the way they'll only read about.

I only pray, Heaven knows when to lift you out.

Ten thousand days in the fire is long enough;

You're going home.

You're the only one who can hold your head up high,

Shake your fists at the gates saying:

"I've come home now!

Fetch me the spirit, the son, and the father.

Tell them their pillar of faith has ascended.

It's time now!

My time now!

Give me my, give me my wings!"

You are the light and way that they will only read about.

Set as I am in my ways and my arrogance,

(With the) burden of proof tossed upon the believers.

You were my witness, my eyes, my evidence,

Judith Marie, unconditional one.

Daylight dims leaving cold fluorescents.

Difficult to see you in this light.

Please forgive this bold suggestion, but

Should you see your Maker's face tonight,

Look Him in the eye, look Him in the eye, and tell Him:

"I never lived a lie, never took a life, but surely saved one.

Hallelujah, it's time for you to bring me home."

Screaming on the inside

I am frail and withered

Cover up the wounds

That I can't hide

Walls that lie between us

The saint within the sinner

I have lost the nerve

But it's all right

Carry the wounded and shut your eyes

All will be forgiven

None will rise

Bury the fallen and lead the blind

I will fight the loss

Dead inside

Into the nothing

Faded and weary

I won't leave and let you fall behind

Live for the dying

Heaven hear me

I know we can make it out alive

Leave me at the bottom

I am lost forever

Letters from the dead

Say goodbye

Sorrow falls upon us

This will be the last time

Days begin to end

But I'll get by

Follow the hopeless

And shut your eyes

All will be abandoned

None will shine

Gather the broken and leave this life

Lying in the earth

Side by side

Into the nothing

Faded and weary

I won't leave and let you fall behind

Live for the dying

Heaven hear me

I know we can make it out alive

I'll keep you inside

Where I lead you cannot follow

Straight into the light

As my breath grows still and shallow

Into the nothing

Faded and weary

I won't leave and let you fall behind

Live for the dying

Heaven hear me

I know we can make it out alive

Stay with me

You're all I have left

I know we can make it out alive

Stay with me

You're all I have left

I know we can make it out alive

Professional Rap (Feat. Herbal T) - Wax and Dumbfoundead

Ya'll remain in the box while we step out of it

the crowd love it, we do too, we proud of it

we don't half-ass nothin, we come hard every time

every beat, every song, every bar, every line

it's so hard to define, i don't know why ya'll try

it can't be fathomed by the mind of a small fry

but you can take a lesson in that

sit back shut ya trap while professionals rap

yo

ain't nobody spittin tighter

crowds are gettin hyper

i've been rippin cyphers

since ya'll was s***tin diapers

you little tyke rykers

with trainin' wheels on them

ya'll dog paddle and we navy seals frog men

in aqua fatigues

you are not in the league

you're a lesser breed

follow the professor's lead

smart people sittin ten at the desk

but most of ya'll dummies are content with F's

you little toddlers

sheep flock followers

deep c*** swallowers

we pop thermometers

heat drops

the melancholic heat rocks

ominous beat chops

the butcher from the melodic meat shop

where you can buy sound by the pound

if you're clownin around, then sit the f*** down

homeboy this ain't amateur night

so keep ya hands off the mic if you can't handle it right

Ya'll remain in the box while we step out of it

the crowd love it, we do too, we proud of it

we don't half-ass nothin, we come hard every time

every beat, every song, every bar, every line

it's so hard to define, i don't know why ya'll try

it can't be fathomed by the mind of a small fry

but you can take a lesson in that

sit back shut ya trap while professionals rap

yo

you little f*** rappers will lose

get gut battered and bruised

blood splatters and oozes

i love battlin fools

for a decade i been doin this, been murderin the booth

ya'll were nesting in the uterus, covered in mad goo

you mumblin baboons, doin nothin but cover songs

always playin it safe, like f***in with rubbers on

we're raw dawg, ball raw, punches are comin strong

mic feeding, i'm feeding lunch to these hungry palms

you bust out copiers, of what's now popular

couldn't see as if you're fingers clutched on binoculars

zoom in from the audience; see how the pros do it

fall in love with a rap, that you wanna propose to it

on bended knee, wedding ring, death do us part

put an X through you marks, so get left in the dark

we're callin out names like you ordered at Starbucks

you know the drill, the slogan's still "Go get ur bars up"

Ya'll remain in the box while we step out of it

the crowd love it, we do too, we proud of it

we don't half-ass nothin, we come hard every time

every beat, every song, every bar, every line

Yo

I've lived many years

spent a lot of em doin this

tryna keep it funky

on some guano manure s***

never tried to copy

cuz im not a computer chip

did my own thing

like entrepenuership

so many rappers make me

wanna vomit its ludicrous

we keep it raw like sushi

bar lobster and tuna fish

a lot of producers motto

is follow the music biz

but we redefinin what music is

autonomous, cats cant follow this

trash can novices

fat chance of toppin this

dope like poppy thats

grown in afghan provinces

f*** all your wack plans and promises

imma just, supplement the beat like creatine

E chop it up like a guillotine

Wax, Herbal T and DFD a team

not to underestimate

cant just talk it man

you gotta demonstrate

Ya'll remain in the box while we step out of it

the crowd love it, we do too, we proud of it

Rise up this mornin',

Smiled with the risin' sun,

Three little birds

Pitch by my doorstep

Singin' sweet songs

Of melodies pure and true,

Sayin', "This is my message to you-ou-ou:"

Singin': "Don't worry 'bout a thing,

'Cause every little thing gonna be all right."

Love is like oxygen

You get too much you get too high

Not enough and you're gonna die

Love gets you high. . .

Time on my side

I got it all

I've heard that pride

Always comes before a fall

There's a rumour goin' round the town

That you don't want me around

I can't shake off my city blues

Every way I turn I lose

Love is like oxygen

. . .

Love is like oxygen

You get too much you get too high

Not enough and you're gonna die

Love gets you high. . .

. . .

Time is no healer

If you're not there

Lonely fever

Sad words in the air

Some things are better left unsaid

I'm gonna spend my days in bed

I'll walk the streets at night

To be hidden by the city lights

City lights

Love is like oxygen

You get too much you get too high

Not enough and you're gonna die

Love gets you high. . .

Well, all's not well but I'm told that it'll all be quite nice

You'll be drowned in boots like mafia

But your feet will still float like Christ's

Well, I'll be damned, they were right

I'm drownin' upside down, my feet afloat like Christ's

I'm in heaven, tryin' to figure out which stack

They're gonna stuff us atheists into

When Peter and his monkey laugh

And I laugh with them, I'm not sure what at

They point and say, we'll keep you in the back

Polishing halos, baking manna and gas

Well, some guy comes in lookin' a bit like everyone I ever seen

He moves just like Crisco, disco, breath 100% Listerine

He says lookin' at somethin' else, but directin' everythin' to me

"Any time anyone gets on their knees to pray

Well, it makes my telephone ring," and I'll be damned

He said "you were right, no one's running this whole thing"

He had a theory too. He said that

"God takes care of himself

God takes care of himself

and you of you"

Red Sector A - RUSH

Geddy Lee explained the genesis of the song in an interview:

The seeds for the song were planted nearly 65 years ago in April 1945 when British soldiers liberated the Nazi concentration camp Bergen-Belsen. Lee’s mother, Manya (now Mary) Rubenstein, was among the survivors. (His father, Morris Weinrib, was liberated from the Dachau concentration camp few weeks later.)

“I once asked my mother her first thoughts upon being liberated,” Lee says during a phone conversation. “She didn’t believe [liberation] was possible. She didn’t believe that if there was a society outside the camp how they could allow this to exist, so she believed society was done in."

All that we can do is just survive

All that we can do to help ourselves is stay alive...

Ragged lines of ragged grey

Skeletons, they shuffle away

Shouting guards and smoking guns

Will cut down the unlucky ones

I clutch the wire fence until my fingers bleed

A wound that will not heal -- a heart that cannot feel --

Hoping that the horror will recede

Hoping that tomorrow, we'll all be freed

Sickness to insanity

Prayer to profanity

Days and weeks and months go by

Don't feel the hunger -- too weak to cry

I hear the sound of gunfire at the prison gate

Are the liberators here -- do I hope or do I fear?

For my father and my brother, it's too late

But I must help my mother stand up straight...

Are we the last ones left alive?

Are we the only human beings to survive?...

I seem to post this one every few months, but one of my all-time favourites.

Queen - '39

In the year of thirty-nine

Assembled here the volunteers

In the days when lands were few

Here the ship sailed out into the blue and sunny morn

Sweetest sight ever seen

And the night followed day

And the story tellers say

That the score brave souls inside

For many a lonely day

Sailed across the milky seas

Ne'er looked back never feared never cried

Don't you hear my call

Though you're many years away

Don't you hear me calling you

Write your letters in the sand

For the day I'll take your hand

In the land that our grandchildren knew

In the year of thirty-nine

Came a ship in from the blue

The volunteers came home that day

And they bring good news

Of a world so newly born

Though their hearts so heavily weigh

For the earth is old and grey

little darling we'll away

But my love this cannot be

Oh so many years have gone

Though i'm older but a year

Your mother's eyes from your eyes cry to me

Don't you hear my call

Though you're many years away

Don't you hear me calling you

Write your letters in the sand

For the day I'll take your hand

In the land that our grand-children knew

All your letters in the sand

Cannot heal me like your hand

For my life, still ahead, pity me.

"'39" relates the tale of a group of space explorers who embark on what is, from their perspective, a year-long voyage. Upon their return, however, they realise that a hundred years have passed, because of the time dilationeffect in Einstein's Theory of Special Relativity, and the loved ones they left behind are now all dead.

The lack of Axl Rose lyrics in this thread is disturbing (two lines containing the song title in the chorus of the overrated "November Rain" don't count.)

Coma, by Guns N' Roses:

Hey, you caught me in a coma

And I don't think I wanna

Ever come back to this world again

Kinda like it in a coma'

Cause no one's ever gonna

Oh, make me come back to this world again

Now I feel as if I'm floating away

I can't feel all the pressure, and I like it this way

But my body's callin', my body's callin'

Won't ya come back to this world again?

Suspended deep in a sea of black

I've got the light at the end

I've got the bones on the mast

Well, I've gone sailin', I've gone sailin'

I could leave so easily

While friends are callin' back to me

I said they're, they're leavin' it all up to me

When all I needed was clarity

And someone to tell me

What the f*** is going on, goddamn it!

Slippin' farther an' farther away

It's a miracle, how long we can stay

In a world our minds created

In a world that's full of s***

Help me, help me

Help me, help me b******

Please understand me

I'm climbin' through the wreckage

Of all my twisted dreams

But this cheap investigationJ

ust can't stifle all my screams

And I'm waitin' at the crossroads, waiting for you

Waiting for you, where are you?

No one's gonna bother me anymore

No one's gonna mess with my head no more

I can't understand what all the fightin's for

But it's so nice here, down off the shore

I wish you could see this,'Cause there's nothing to see

It's peaceful here, and it's fine with me

Not like the world where I used to live

I never really wanted to live

Live your life like it's a coma

Won't you tell me why we'd wanna?

With all the reasons you give it's

It's kinda hard to believe

But who am I to tell you, that I've seen

Any reason why you should stay?

Maybe we'd be better off without you, anyway!

You got a one way ticket on your last chance ride

Got a one way ticket to your suicide

Gotta one way ticket, and there's no way out alive

An all this crass communication

That has left you in the cold

Isn't much for consolation

When you feel so weak and old

But is home is where the heart is

Then there's stories to be told

No, you don't need a doctor

No one else can heal your soul

Got your mind in submission, got your life on the line

But nobody pulled the trigger, they just stepped aside

They be down by the water

While you watch 'em waving goodbye

They be callin' in the morning

They be hangin' on the phone

They be waiting for an answer

When you know nobody's home

When the bell's stopped ringing

It was nobody's fault, but your own

There were always ample warnings

There were always subtle signs

And you would have seen it comin'

But we gave you too much time

When you said that no one's listening

Why'd your best friend drop a dime

Sometimes we get so tired of waiting

For a way to spend our time

And it's so easy to be social

It's so easy to be cool

Yeah, it's easy to be hungry

When you ain't got s*** to lose

And I wish that I could help you

With what you hope to find

But I'm still out here waiting

Watching reruns of my life

When you reach the point of breaking

Know it's gonna take some time

To heal the broken memories

That another man would need just to survive

People say I'm no good

and crazy as a loon

Cause I get stoned in the mornin'

and get drunk in the afternoon

Kinda like my ol' blue tick hound

I like to lay around in the shade

And I ain't got no money

but I've damn sure got it made

(chorus)

And I ain't askin' nobody for nothing

if I can't get it on my own

If you don't like the way I'm livin'

you just leave this

long haired country boy alone

Preacher man talkin' on TV

puttin' down the rock and roll

He wants me to send a donation

cause he's worried about my soul

He said "Jesus walked on the water"

and I know that it's true

But sometimes I think that preacher man

might do a little walkin' too

(chorus)

A poor girl wants to marry

and the rich girl wants to flirt

A rich man goes to college

and the poor man goes to work

A drunkard wants another drink of wine

and the politician wants a vote

I don't want much of nothing at all

but I will take another toke

(chorus)
