Not to many people know this, but yesterday in Russia, Canada played against Russia. It was a reunion from the 1972 Summit Series teams, but many participants from the thrilling 1987 Canada Cup series faced off in an exhibition game.

I didn't know Cliff Ronning was going to be playing for team Canada, but anyways he scored a couple of nice goals. It's the goal he scored on a penalty shot that has a lot of people talking, he made the goal look like it was nothing, it was sick, check it out.

Pretty sick!

Here is his other goal.

I always loved Cliff - he was a heart and soul player. Kudos to him.

In today's game, without the clutch and grab, Cliff would be a very effective player .. like another Jeff Skinner .. even more effective than he was when interference was the name of the game ..

Nice post. I am just wondering looking at Ronning's stick if it is legal. Blade looks oversized.

If you want to make something look bigger than it is, take a picture of Cliff Ronning holding it.

Not to many people know this...

...but this was already posted in the General Hockey forum, since it's not directly related to the current Canucks team.

Well I do know Cliff Ronning and another player are the ones who created the Warrior stick, so I'm pretty sure he knows all about the legal blades since he created the Warrior stick. I know this because about 8 years ago I was given a Warrior stick from Cliff Ronning, because he is very close with my father, but it was a test stick at the time.

The one in General Hockey forum, was related to the 2 countries Canada and Russia playing against each other, with some footage of Cliff because it was the only footage I saw. He may not be on the current Canucks team now, but he played a big role in the Canucks organization for a long time. It's not like he played 1 season with the Canucks and then was traded and then if that was the case I would agree it wouldn't be Canucks talk, but the fact he played a majority of his Career in a Canucks uniform, and being a BC boy he deserves it. Fans who have been long time Canucks fans would appreciate seeing Cliff for Canucks talk, and to be honest there hasn't been much talk about Cliff on this board really ever, so I think you can cut some slack on this one. Look at all the Pavel Bure threads that show up here, or Linden threads, Mclean threads, Naslund ones, Bertuzzi, 1994 threads, the list goes on, all ex players who aren't on the Canucks current list, but are still Canucks talk because they had an impact on the Canucks franchise.

Ok quick poll. Who would you rather have playing for the Canucks next season (whenever that may be)?
Cliff Ronning or Mason Raymond?

He was the first NHL player I ever met when I was a kid, will always be one of my favourite... I would take him over Raymond in a heart beat, look at the numbers Cliff put up in the clutch and grab as a small guy... Raymond gets knocked over easy in todays NHL, imagine Raymond back then?
