Today marks the anniversary of the terrible tragedy in Russia. I found this article. I was surprised not to see anything on CDC. I searched but didn't find a topic.

R.I.P. Pavol and thank you for making Vancouver a destination for Free Agents.

RIP Demo.
I'm saying Aladeen a lot because http://forum.canucks...dpost__10922428

I bet when Schneider turns 38, he will have broken all of Luongo's records.

[quote][I sent that arrow[to the]upper deck for Luc.
We talked about it and I said before the overtime that this is where legends are born. I thought about Luc and I said: Lets get the arrow up there. And I was able to get it. I knew he[Bourdon]was going to be with me and I tried to get it done. I wasn't. For some reason most Canuck fans felt like Pavol didn't do quite enough here for anybody to commemorate his death the way that, say, Rick Rypien's death was. Pavol (who was a star player and a national hero in Slovakia who died in the worst tragedy in hockey history) barely got mentioned while Rypien (an "enforcer" whose most remembered moment in the NHL was attacking a fan while getting kicked out of a game and who took his own life) got the whole memorial treatment by the Canuck organisation. Strange.

Little solace to the families and friends of those lost one year ago, Russian investigators charged a former airline executive Thursday in connection with last September’s devastating plane crash that saw 44 people killed, including most members of the Lokomotiv Yaroslavl hockey team.

Vadim Timofeyev, former deputy director of now-defunct Yak Service Airlines, has been charged with “a violation of the rules for transport safety and operation of air transport” for allowing two unqualified pilots to fly the plane that crashed shortly after takeoff, killing all but one on board on Sept. 7, 2011.

On Thursday, investigative committee spokesman Vladimir Markin told reporters that Timofeyev was supposed to ensure that crew members were qualified and their training complete, but instead allowed the pilots to fly the aircraft “illegally.”

According to a http://en.sledcom.ru...gativeCommittee of the Russian Republic report published online Thursday, the Yak-42’s captain, Andrei Solomentsev, was flying on “forged documents” and co-pilot Igor Zhevelov, had not finished his requalification exam to the plane.

A Sportsnet Magazine report published last December also noted that investigators a found a “banned drug” in the co-pilot’s blood, a drug used to treat a neurological disorder that causes weakness in the hands and feet.

I was in attendance for both these goals, R.I.P. Pavol, was so excited the summer when Gillis signed him.
I rather lose with the Canucks, than win with any other team

RIP, unfortunately he's not on the Canucks current roster.

Trevor Linden Quote Nov. 29th 2012 [Asked if he would return to the game?]
"The game has been with me for a long time, if the right opportunity came about, you never know"

"You don't know this, but Trevor Linden had cracked ribs and torn rib cartilage for the last four games of the 1994 Stanley Cup Final," Cliff Ronning said. "You can't imagine what it's like to hear your captain, in a room down the hall, screaming at the top of his lungs as they injected the needle into his rib cage. Knowing him, he probably thought we couldn't hear. He would then walk into our dressing room like nothing had happened. That was inspirational."

Pavol Demitra was a pretty dominant player.

I still remember that one game against Boston which seemed like he won that game for us single handedly, scoring near the end of the game and then getting the winner in the shoot out.

Pavol helped develop some of our players along with Mats Sundin.

RIP Pavol Demitra.

RIP Demitra and other members of the team. Thoughts go out to their loved ones as well.

I also found it surprising how Demitra got no mentions from the organization. Wild has a tribute on their site. Blues and Wild official twitter accounts have tweeted a message in his memory, but nothing from the Canucks. :/

The first thing I do every morning is reach for my phone and check email and Twitter. Most of the time I'm still half asleep when I do that so even while I'm reading emails and tweets, I'm not quite comprehending what they're saying. When I read the first tweet about the Lokomotiv plane crash I scrolled right by it because it didn't even register on me about what it was saying. Only after a whole series of tweets with the same tags appeared did I realize that something had happened. I was wide awake in an instant and quickly ran to check the net to see what had happened.

Seeing the images and the early reports that the entire team had died just seemed unbelievable. I kept expecting someone to say that it was a false alarm and everyone was fine. To read all the familiar names of players who'd played in the NHL and then to hear Demo's name was just heartbreaking. All these guys were doing was playing the sport they loved. They had families and young kids they were leaving behind. It was just devastating.

Will never forget that day.

RIP to all the victims and continued good thoughts to their families

Demitra - Sundin - Kesler is probably the best 2nd line we've had in the modern era. RIP Pavol.
