(proposal) van - phi and more

edited proposals

-Vancouver trades D Keith Ballard and a 2013 4th round draft pick to Philadelphia for D Brandon Manning, 2013 2nd

Philly needs help on there back end with several of there core players being out with injuries. there defense as is stand is very week and and prospects aren't going to fill that void, Ballard despite being used as a bottom pairing player can move the puck well, is very fast and his hip checks are amazing. Ballard can excel in the increased minuets of Philly and possibly a top 4 d-man for them like he was with Phoenix and Florida. We get a decent defense prospect from BC and a couple of draft picks for this year and the next, we also unload Ballard's contract to free up cap space

edit:

-Vancouver trades 2013 2nd and F Dale Weise to Toronto for D Cody Franson's rights baring he doesn't negotiate a contract extension with the Leafs. would that be enough to get Franson away from the Leafs?

sign Franson 2 years 4.5mill @2.25mill cap hit.

it doesn't seem that Franson will sign with the leafs so this is our chance to steal him from them. he is a big gritty d-man who can make our back end more imposing and intimidation to play against. just the kind of guy we need plus he is from BC.

-Vancouver trades G Roberto Luongo, D Yann Sauve and 2013 4th rounders to Florida for C/LW Quinton Howden, D Cody Robak, G Jose Theodore, 2013 2nd round draft pick

Florida gets an allstar goalie who can carry them to the playoffs despite them losing some significant players, a projected bottom pairing d-man with size as well as 3rd and 4th round draft picks. Vancouver gets 2 B+ prospects, a Veteran Backup goalie(if he agrees to waive his NTC) and a 2nd round draft pick to replace the one we lost in the Franson signing. Howden is a big player who has potential to be a 2nd line scoring winger, Robak is a decent defensive defense man with top 4 potential. hes like Bieksa

It's almost like there wasn't an impending lockout or something on the horizon.

Proposals need to stop being made, short of a Christmas miracle, 8 days of Hanukkah miracles, the rebirth of Allah and the Dalai Lama single handedly ending Chinese oppression of Tibet, the NHL will be locking out the NHLPA come September 15th, 2012.

Now, I'm no seer and I cannot predict the future, but what I can predict is the trending behaviour of both parties to continue for the foreseeable future. Both sides are digging in and preparing for trench warfare. This lockout will more than likely cause the entire loss of the 2012-2013 season.

What does this have to do with proposals? Everything, if the season is lost to lockout all these "injuries" teams are facing are rendered moot with the individuals essentially having an entire calendar year to recuperate. Even if the season starts late which would be a miracle in itself, there would still likely be time for players to properly recoup.

On the flip side of that, it would benefit us in that contracts signed carry forward, so Mason Raymond could spend an entire season playing in Europe somewhere, gain his confidence back and have that "bounce back" season we're all so hoping he might have. Likewise, this situation could prove helpful to Kassian, Jensen and Shroeder and Gaunce.

If the owners win their salary roll back request, and the cap goes down significantly we could still potentially have a helluva team if Raymond, Kassian, Jensen, Shroeder and Gaunce all emerge.

I close off this rant by giving this proposal a solid two thumbs down.
