The Winnipeg Jets are pleased to announce they have agreed to terms with forward Spencer Machacek on a new NHL contract. As per club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Machacek, 23, played in 13 games with the Winnipeg Jets last season. In that time, he recorded nine points (2G, 7A) and seven penalty minutes. He scored his first NHL goal on Mar. 23/12 in Washington against the Capitals (4-3OTW).

The Lethbridge, AB native also appeared in 61 games with the St. John’s IceCaps of the American Hockey League. He recorded 50 points (18G, 32A) and 48 penalty minutes. He lead the IceCaps in points (50), shots on net (166) and tied for second in assists (32).

Machacek has played in 25 career NHL games between Atlanta and Winnipeg for nine career points (2G, 7A) and seven penalty minutes. He was originally drafted by Atlanta in the third round, 67th overall, in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Realize for most of you that this signing is pretty insignificant, but as a Jets fan, I am pretty stoked to see how this guy performs this shortened season. Hopefully his production in the 10 games he got last season wasn't a fluke and he can become a talented 3rd liner with some time on the 2nd line. No word on the terms of the contract yet. Now we just have to wait on Kane :(

Edit: If that is indeed his contract, that is great value.

Whatever his cap hit is, I'm sure it is a lot less than Mason Raymond's.

Good job by the Jets. Was a no brainer though.

Can you imagine drowning AT a KK Rev concert?

i'm pretty sure that's how zombies are born.

9 points in 13 games? Not bad at all.

In my eyes drouin is overrated he can score in the qmjhl but did nothing in last two gold medal games that canada lost. Fox will be better pro than him talk to me in five yrs

ryan kesler is going to the chicago blackhawks ...       quote me on it

Good move for the Jets. He was solid in his short stint with the team.

Pretty good captain for the Giants as I recall, even if he was the 2nd choice.

I can see him panning out to be a solid middle-6 player for the Jets. Hopefully he makes the jump.
